Silent Hill 2…SUCKS
I just finished it on the PS5. This was my first try at any Silent Hill game.

It was so boring. The puzzles were lame. The “story” was trying too hard to be something mysterious and vague it just made me lose interest. The characters were lame.

“Oh, so and so was a manifestation or was representative of-“
“Yah, I don’t care.”

Just…bleh overall.

I love a good survival horror game, but this wasn’t one. Alien: Isolation was TONS better; so was the Dead Space trilogy. Even Outlast 2 with the shittiest camera batteries known to man was much better at suspense and horror.

I’m glad I only borrowed it from a coworker.

I didn't think it was that bad. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is that bad.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, though. What do you think it could have done better?

My most recent was Origins / Zero.

Seemed to play a lot better and was more thought out.

Thanks for posting - I was thinking about picking up the remastered on PC, but you helped remind me these games were much slower and combat was very clunky.

Did you check out the remastered RE4? I'm still on the fence picking that up but have friends who loved it, however they didn't play thru the original on gamecube - i have fond memories of that game I don't want to tarnish

I played and finished it when it came out (2001 or '02?), I'm not a gamer really. It was interesting playing it at my brothers house, alone, late night, total darkness. Days off from working overnight at the time.
I also played Zork in the '80s so...

I tried getting into Resident Evil back in the day; it just couldn’t hold my interest. Good story, just not a fan of the gameplay.

If you enjoyed playing like that, you have to try Alien: Isolation. In the dark. With headphones. It made me sweat and my back tired from the tension.

I liked it well enough when it was on PS2 that I got a PS3 to be able to play Silent Hill III.

Games have come a long way since then, haven't gotten a PS5 yet, I have 2 PS4's that still do what I want them to do.

Silent Hill 2 isn't for everyone, and the Critical Drinker explains some of it, but the game ending also depends on how you play the game.
