I stole a Ruger M77 308 yesterday. Trigger options?
So, my buddy called and proceeds to tell me that a good friend of his has more money than sense and wants him to help him sell a few guns.

He showed me this Ruger 77, a Remington model 7 308, and another Remington in 300 Win Mag. I was told the Ruger was a 7mm. This is how out of touch this rich guy is with his firearms. He owns the local school bus company and is mega wealthy.

Anyway, this gun is an absolute beauty. It has a bull barrel with beautiful blueing. The action is smooth and the stock seems very sturdy. The trigger is a little heavy, but did not seem to affect my shooting too much.

I loaded my 2 accuracy loads of 168gr and 175gr SMK with Varget and hit the range. My first group with the 168gr load was just a little over an inch off the bipod. I shot the next group using 175gr SMK with 42.2gr Varget. That 3 shot group is around .37”. The gun is a shooter.

What options are you guys using to get a better trigger pull?

Now…..for the best part. That gun as picture, rifle, Nikon 4-12 and bipod….$450 Eek Eek Big Grin Big Grin

Life is good.

Typically the best option for triggers on old Rugers is to drop in a Timney or Rifle Basix.

Nice rifle... I love Rugers, in general, and have a great shooting tang safety 7x57. I can't tell if that is a factory stock painted black or stained very dark, or if it's an aftermarket composite stock.

The Ruger M77 and M77mk2 rifles are underrated.

I had a 220 Swift with the bull barrel in a varmint stock that was a lights out shooter.

Sold it to a buddy because I gravitated to suppressed ARs for shooting coyotes. But it was and is a great rifle.

The stock is a Bell & Carson Duramaxx stock. I ordered a Weigand one piece mount and will be mounting a SWFA fixed 12 power I have lying around. I took her out to 200 yds with my 175gr SMK handload and shot this 3rd group on steel. These were my first shots at 200. The steel target is 8”x 6”. She is a shooter.

I don't mess with them other than a quick polish.

I love my M77 RSI.

I have a Ruger Model 77 ‘flat bolt’ dated 1970, in 284 Winchester. It was sitting on consignment at a local shop, most didn’t want to deal with the unusual round.

As it languished, I tended an offer. We met in the middle, came with ammo, empties, & scope rings. In many cases, buying used is a nice option.

I put a Timney in an old "tanger" for a family member. It required removing a bit of wood in a couple place. Not terribly hard though.

I purchased a Rifle Basix trigger which states it fits all Ruger M77 guns. Well, it does not fit ones with the tang safety. I did however discover the adjustable factory trigger which I set and is now perfect for my shooting needs. Big Grin

I had to go out and re zero the gun after taking it out of the stock for the failed trigger install. This is the first 3 shot group with my 175gr SMK load. I also dropped in a Weigand scope rail, Seekins rings and a SWFA 10X. This gun is a damn good shooter and worth every penny of the $450 I gave for it.

Wow, that's a beautiful rifle! Does the M77 have a detachable box magazine, or internal?

Phone's ringing, Dude.
