Upgrade Surefire weapon light to LED Login/Join

I’ve got a very old 618FA Weapon light for my 870. I’d like to replace the incandescent lamp with a nice LED unit. Can I just get any old P60/P60L and stick it in there? Any suggestions on which to buy and which to avoid?

I did the google. It’s all outdated links and missing images due to the age of the posts.

Thanks.

If you start to consider sending it to Surefire, I'd be sure to talk (thoroughly) to someone there first. I have an old SIG 551 Surefire integrated weaponlight handguard; one of the navigation lights doesn't work. It didn't work when I got it (used); I got in touch with Surefire, and they said they could likely fix it. I sent it in. They couldn't fix it. I got it back and, instead of one non-functioning nav light, I had an empty (and upside down) nav light bezel on one side. I have nothing against the company in general, but they sure couldn't work on that old model.

I didn't check, but have you seen what Malkoff might offer as an upgrade?

They sell the entire head here:

Looks like the P60 inserts do not work with the fore ends.

Yes, that's the ticket. Money well-spent. The M61 module is damn near bomb proof. I've got five or six M61s, and an M91 for my old Surefire 9P. I can't say enough about these modules.

Made in the USA products, and the people at Malkoff are worthy of your business. Salt of the Earth.

If you've never before ordered from them, you can get 20% off your first order by signing up for their newsletter. That's a heck of a deal.

I also did the Malkoff upgrade on an older 870 weapon light. It works great.

I've used Malkoff upgrades in several older Surefire flashlights, both handheld and forend. Including that exact one in a 618FA. Definitely money well spent.

A little late but, I also recently upgraded the old P60 bulb on a G2Z and it runs great! I am also certain the batteries last longer than any other comparable CR123 powered LED flashlight I have.

I've a Millennium Series M3 Combatlight in which I stupidly fried the bulb by having a brain fart and putting in three RCR123s

It was real bright for a moment, there

I've been thinking about an LED replacement, and I know Malkoff is good stuff, but, man, $144...? I dunno.

Of course, then I'd be albe to use those RCR123s...

I’ve got an old 6P in a drawer here somewhere that I carried when I was a paramedic back in the 90’s. Man, that thing was cutting edge back then. Big Grin I should find the parts to upgrade it too.

You just need an M61 and a McClicky Switch and you'd be all set.

I installed a McClicky in my old 6P and 9P. Nothing to it.

It’s supposed to be delivered in Friday. I guess I’ve got to get some batteries.

I put a Malkoff on my M3 a couple years ago. It doesn't eat batteries anymore.

Yeah, it did eat batteries, which was why I stupidly tried the RCR123s.

I'm still thinking about it, but, I was never particularly fond of the light, anyway (it was gifted to me), so I'm not inclined to go spending Real Money on it.
