That's really nice, you owe her now.

Trigger, free float the barrel, any such invisible improvements?

That’s cool!

Of all the rifles I have, I don’t have a retro AR. Maybe that’s what I build next.

Definitely gonna have to go 10.5” though Smile

Very nice. The only thing I don't like about Colt commercial rifles of this period is that Colt was not yet using full-fence lowers.

But, that aside, these are desirable rifles- collectible, but not so collectible that you shouldn't shoot them.

I bet Colt had made a million or so of these lowers and used them for the civilian market instead of destroying them.

It is a bit aesthetically unpleasing, but I accept them for what they are. This one with an A2 upper and the 601 lower is sure oddball.

Like you said, I like the collectibility, and you're dang right I'm gonna shoot it!

Very nice they made some with a slabside upper also. I'm told they were kind of transitional guns and different configurations of A2 sporter 2.

Is yours a SporterII A1 and not an SP1?

I've seen some of the early ban guns with a pinned block in the lower. I guess that is just before they started forging them with the bridge where the sear would go. The last of the slabside lowers.

I love it when I start a thread an folks go dig stuff out of ther safes!

1992 is when Colt switched from the 601 lower receiver to the M16A2 full-fence lower.

Queued up to the pertinent part of the video:

All of my Sporter Colts have the select fire bolt carriers.

I guess after 1992 they neutered them, making them undesirable, even to collectors.

I have one M16 604 upper that also retains its full bolt carrier group.

There's my rifle right there on the opening photo.

The last of the Sporter series before they ruined them. He even says the neutered ones are undesirable.
