While it is very likely to be a phenomenal optic and does EXACTLY what it says it does, it's niche to the extreme. If the tech trickles down, terrific. They are really making whichever government contract pay for the R&D on the front end, so they don't expect to make more than one run of these.

If a company approaches me and asks me to make a single run of pencils from scratch using the only resources I have available, I sure is heck am not going to charge market rate for them.

Thank goodness for that extra 10 hrs! Who would roll with only 50,000 when they could be strutting around with 50,010.....
/sarc off

BTW, I thought you might have been kidding about the sticker. Eek

Before everyone beats their outrage drum, it's not meant for us and this video neatly explains why. Why SIG even released it to the civilian market is a head-scratcher, but maybe they didn't want to be accused of withholding. I don't know. Regardless, that's what Uncle Sam pays for it, so that's what they're obligated to charge us by law. Yes, this is how wisely our government spends money.

Sig likely had a contract for "x" units and produced x + Z number of units, and once the contract was fulfilled, they are selling off the Z units leftover.

I'll take Nightforce ATACR 7-35x for $3500, Alex.

LMAO, Sig. I have no doubt this is another one of their Chinese assembled optics but at 3-4x the price of Trijicon, Aimpoint, or any other quality optics manufacturer.

You didn't read the description or watch the video, did you?

That's a neat optic and I understand the usage for it but obviously most people would never have a real use for it, unless that's the kind of business you're into.

I'll wait... I'm sure there will be a similar "dual dot" offering from one of the other makers within 3-6 months for 1/10th the price.

There are already red dots out there that you can change the reticle, others that can change the color from red to green, and a couple Eotechs out there with mutliple aiming dots(EXPS3-2 and -4).

If SIG can sell a Romeo5 for $125, sorry but I doubt this merits $3,875 more per unit in R&D.

And if it's "Not for us"... Roll Eyes... why are they sending me emails about it with a BUY NOW button?

Because Sig is neither a firearm company, nor an optics company. They're a marketing company.

There's gonna be some guy out there with more money than sense who finds a picture of some SEALs using one of these and he'll build a clone of it that costs him seven grand just so he can show pictures of it to guys who know what they're looking it, and it's sheer bragging rights. I know some of those guys. That's who this is for. That guy, and the guys who actually use it to shoot sentries, at night, in third world countries. If you're neither, and that's 99% of us, then this optic isn't for you.

So uncle sugar went with the most expensive way to solve that very small, infrequent problem. Not surprising.

220Smudge for the win. Its only dumb if nobody buys it. Someone out there will and they probably already have preorders.

Odds that next year Holosun has a competing product that costs $500?

I don’t think I would spend that much on a firearm, let alone an optic. So that’s a definite no.
