Looking for newer recommendations for optics to mount on an AUG M1/A3: Holographic, LPVO, Prism, etc. My budget is around $500-$600.
Found an...
Eotech EXPS2-2 $500
Eotech XPS3-2 $610
Vortex Strike Eagle FFP 1-8X24 $600
SIG Tango MSR FFP $350-$550 for 1-6X to 1-10X respectively with mount.
Primary Arms optics worth considering?

Do I need a riser? Height? Don't have any NVG's nor any plans to.

My concern with REDDOT type optics is when I look at them they are blurry and never a real DOT. Not sure if I'd have the same issue with holographic and prisms too.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations. BTW...I did review an older 2021 AUG Optics post. Just figured there might be some newer options.

Your description of red dots sounds like you have astigmatism, a common issue.

You will want an optic with diopter adjustment to help resolve this.

I am a big fan of Vortex Optics in general, but the Strike Eagle 1-8 is far from their best offering.

In your price range, and commenting from a standpoint of optics that I have personally used. A Burris RT6 would serve you well. They sometimes sell it in a mount of the proper height, or if you buy the optic alone, you could get one of Warne X-Skel mounts. I personally like the standard height mounts, which I believe has 1.5 inches of height above the rail. Some people prefer the 1.93 inch mounts for a little bit more of a 'heads up' shooting position.

I checked Brownells first, and it was out of stock there.

It is available here:

https://www.eurooptic.com/Burr...X-6X-24mm-illum.aspx

And for a good price.

I have one of these and it is a solid optic.

I've had my AUG for a little over a year and so far it has worn an old Vortex Razor 1-4x; a Aimpoint PRO; and now (and permanently) a Primary Arms 3x prism. I like the Primary Arms and the ballistic reticle so much, along with the clarity of the glass, that I got one for a Palmetto AK.

The wide and prominent corners on an EOTECH can cause finger injury when pulling the operating handle on an AUG.
I have a Comp M4s on one and it fits nicely.

I have a Steiner Prism M332 on my AUG but I’d also use this:

Either have adjustment to help with Asthigmatism.

Just to throw it out there, I have a 4x Acog on mine. Best way I can explain it is it feels like that optic was made for the Aug. I've had a few friends make the same comment after shooting it. Feels better on the Aug than an AR even.

Eotech and AUGs don’t get along. Unless you really hate your knuckles they just don’t work with the charging handle. I’ve currently got an MRO on mine.

I've been running a primary arms 1-6 ffp on my Aug for years and enjoy it. I consider a dot for speed sometimes but I feel it gives up too much for the ability to reach out.

I'll second the Primary Arms 3X & the 1X "Cyclops" prism sights. Glass clarity is excellent & the reticle is etched so if your battery goes down you still have the reticle. Plus having astigmatizm has no ill effect using the optic.
If you don't mind the price, An ACOG is the way to go.

Hard to beat an ACOG for clarity; I have one on my A3-M1. You can sometimes find used ones close to your budget area.

If not, I was impressed with the Vortex LPVOs I've handled in the past.

I’ve got a SIG Tango MSR FFP 1-10X and it weighs nearly 1.5 pounds which is much heavier than any other scope I’ve got … I like the reticle and it has good clarity & light. Also it comes with its own 1-piece mount and has the torque specs for the rings & base.

I won’t buy another.

I have a T1 on my AUG and like it a lot. It’s light and takes up a minimal amount of the limited rail space. I went with the red dot because I don’t plan on shooting the AUG much past 100 yds. I have an astigmatism as well and the dot isn’t too bad with the Aimpoint. I don’t know if optic emitter or glass quality make any difference. I had a MRO and it looked like a blob to me, same with a Holosun 403. One trick I learned with the other red dots was to use a rear BUIS to help focus my eye. Maybe that can help you as well?

I have a primary arms slx-1x on my Ak and it’s my favorite optic, I have an aimpoint pro on my tavor and a vortex strike Eagle 2 on my AR, but that prism on my Ak is just really hard to beat. If you can swing an acog go for it, otherwise I’d get the prism
