Because of some eyesight challenges with irons, I'm considering this for accuracy testing my rifle and different factory loads. The maker suggests pistol scopes, not scout scopes due to eye relief

It would be removed to restore the weapon to "as issued" for local club matches.
Do you have experience with this product, or comments after reading the company webpages?

No experience with Amega, but Ultimak offers similar forward rails that I've installed on four different rifles (including a M1A but not a M1). Ultimak makes great stuff.

A number of years ago I went the same route with one of my Garands. I used a scout scope, with the bracket and scope it made a heavy rifle heavier. It was too much for me and I ended up selling the bracket, scope and the Garands. I still believe it is an awesome rifle, just a bit much for me.

I got a second Garand a few years back with the full intent of doing this. Then I got the rifle, looked at it, and just couldn't bring myself to do it. Yeah, I know it's completely reversible, but it just seemed so...wrong. I'm glad these options exist, though, because at some point my eyes are going to go and I'll probably need it.

Here is a mount that replaces some components of the rear sight to add a PA 3x/5x prism (there are probably a few ACOGs that would work). No permanent modifications, and it feels a little more natural than a scout scope IMO.

Neither of my CMP Garands run and I haven't had the time or energy to put towards making them into shooters. My intent is to put a prism 3x onto one of them before I eventually try to take them out past 100 yards. My eyes no longer like to cooperate with peep sights, my astigmatism makes the rear aperture egg-shaped and makes finding the center of the circle difficult, more so when shooting distances >100-200.

Ok, that's an awesome mount.

I've never been truly happy with the forward mounted red dot on my M1A Scout, though it was a much better option than any of the receiver optic mounts that are available.

But now, replacing the rear sight with a 1x or 3x PA prism might be just the ticket.

Only reason I didn’t take a deer this year with the Garand was lack of optics. Not because of distance, but in lower light it really helps.

But like 92, I can’t bring myself to do it. Won’t do it to the shotguns either. Tried a red dot on the 1301 and it just felt weird.

10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

I’ve used this one. Call and make sure they’re still in business. The RMR sits a lot lower than the prism above.

The mounts work well, don’t add much weight forward at all. Once the scope is on it, you notice the balance shift. I’ve put an extended eye relief scope on it, and at low power is easy to use. Crank it up to 7x and you have to have your head placed exactly right, but it still functions. I used to be able to use the peep sights out to 600 yards, but no longer, so it’s either limiting use to a couple hundred yards or this.
