old rugged crossComposite stock options for a Remington 700 short action[
Talking to Tony (benny6) about a little rifle project. Part of that is changing out a stock to a different composite M40 style stock. I thought options would be plentiful, but does not seem so. McMillain, Manners, Hogue, H-S Precision. I am looking for a old school Woodland or Forest camo unit. But am open to others possibly since options seem limited. I would like to spend as little as possible. $500 is way better than $1000 or more. Am I missing anything. Thanks guys.

benny6It looks like HS Precision has stocks that we were talking about starting at $500. We'd just have to see if it has the correct barrel channel routing for your barrel.

benny6I see! Actually, that stock linked is for a 22 trainer that would simulate a M40A1.
Here's the link for the actual M40A1 stock which was called the HTG stock.
https://mcmillanusa.com/shop/b...ck-models/htg-m40a1/I've ordered this stock before when I built my Savage. You can customize it to have an adjustable cheek riser too.
Here's mine in GAP Camo (an older GAP camo, the new GAP camo is a slightly different color). They custom made this stock for a Savage 110 long action with a blind magazine.
I did the build estimate sheet and the base stock with a painted exterior is $732. With the molded in camo pattern (Forest or Woodland), it's $915.

pbslingerI built a short action 700 in 308 with a prefit Shilen barrel. I used an HS precision stock with a Sendero barrel channel. I ordered it from Optics Planet and got about an 11 percent discount. Optics Planet in my experience is good about completing orders and back orders.
It went together pretty well but I did have to clean up some residual resin. I like it.
