Arisaka Defense Optic Leveler

It won't work on all optics and mounts but it will work in most cases, I think, and the smaller wedge will be the one to use when this tool is compatible.

A rather simple idea that requires precise machining of its two parts, to make the sliding wedge perfectly parallel to its base.

I've tried to use those small bubble levels in the past but they keep falling off the rifle and the scope turret, and those levels allow for a degree of error. I've lately just been eyeballing it to get a level.

With the Arisaka tool, level is level. I tested the tool on one of my scoped rifles.

I hadn't done a bad job of eyeballing it before. I was perhaps two degrees off. I loosened the rings, slid the tool into place, squared the bottom of the turret cluster against the wedge.

The only mistake I made initially was leaving the tool in place when tightening both rings, because when I tightened the ring screws, I could not get the wedge out. The instructions- which I should have heeded- say to remove the tool after tightening one ring.

I loosened the screws on both rings just enough to pull out the wedge, being careful to not disturb the alignment, then tightened down the screws and torqued them to spec. I re-checked the level with the tool.

I have another rifle with this same Trijicon scope and Warne mount, and using the Arisaka tool, I verified that I had managed to get that one dead level before.

Twenty-eight bucks and free shipping.

Arisaka makes some good stuff. On this same rifle, I use an Arisaka Scout light body and Arisaka M-Lok light mount. All parts I've purchased from Arisaka are top-notch.

Nice! Those wedge-type gadgets are effective. I don't have that one, but whenever possible, I try to use my smallest parallel to do the same job.

I have also used a stack of business cards under the scope to get a pretty accurate level as well.

I have also taken a plumb line to the range and used a level on the rifle and lined up the crosshairs to the plumb line.

I was first exposed to that system with Spuhr one piece mounts that use a similar wedge under the turret housing of the scope. I then picked up the Arisaka device that can be used with any Picatinny rail mount.

When I have time I’ve more or less transitioned to leveling my scopes by the shine a light through the objective lens and align the reticle image with a plumb line on the wall method, but the Arisaka is a handy tool that makes the process quick and easy. It’s good to have the tools in a range bag in the event that something happens away from home like having a mount loosen or there’s a reason to remove the scope entirely.

And something that’s not often mentioned about leveling a scope is its relationship to the receiver of the rifle. It’s possible for the receiver to be canted with respect to the scope and even though the reticle is leveled separately by using a plumb line, that can cause problems. I believe that issue may be (sort of?) corrected by zeroing the rifle, but with the Arisaka and Spuhr devices there is a direct connection between the scope and receiver.

I read this thread and ordered one last night (Thursday).
Web site said 1-2 weeks using the free shipping option.
I am planning to move some scopes to different rifles after this hunting season which justified the purchase.

I received an email this morning (Friday) stating my order has been shipped.
Exceptional service.

Oooooooo, a Noveske. Tell us more about the rifle. I've wanted to get one after shooting a good friend's rifle years ago.

Those tools are fantastic and a bargain at the prices now. They have helped me on more than one occasion.

I've been using the Arisaka for probably 10-ish years now and have found it equally useful. Application is limited to rifles with pic rails or one-piece bases, obviously, but it is a great (and fast) tool for those situations. Glad to see the price hasn't changed since I bought mine!

I scoped a new hunting rifle yesterday and had to use my Wheeler two-bubble-level system... PITA and I had to redo it once due to cant. Thankfully, not something I'll have to screw with again for some time.

This has been my redneck solution, but aiming at the garage door manual release string. I finally got tired of stacking 2x4s to cant the rest & tied an extension to the string. I can get more smarter sometimes....

Thanks Para for posting this. Just ordered one. I have been using the Wheeler two bubble doo-dad and seem to only be able to get close to level. This one is one of those simple, why didn't I think of that tools.

I had been eyeballing my installs and then checking them by lining up the scope vertical cross hair on the edge of my shop in the back yard. Big Grin

But I did just order one, to make thinks a lot easier and precise. Thanks Para for posting about this. Neat tool.
