Makasi or Galil Ace for Next Side Charging Piston Gun?
I’ve got a few piston guns already and it’s down to these two for the next addition. They’re neatly identical in price. The Makasi is a new to the market FAL AR hybrid. Anybody got experience with both by chance?

Makasi or Galil Ace in 5.56?Brigade MakasiGalil Ace Gen 2

I voted Brigade as the weight seems to be a pound lighter than the Ace, and I don't think he Ace is going anywhere. The Brigade...who knows. I own an SBR ACE in 7.62x39 and it's a porker.

The Makasi arrived today. I’m pumped to shoot this gun this weekend as it’s impressive out of the box. Not super heavy or light but well balanced and it feels robustly constructed.

Here it is with the Colt that came in from Aim this week.

I’m excited to see how it goes against the competition.

Very cool. Is the Gas profile Govt or midweight?

The Makasi has adjustable gas settings and what looks like a medium contour barrel. I’ll look at it closer when I get back home. I unboxed and fondled it for a minute before needing to run out. Here are the specs:

Had to return my buddy’s scar after the first day of testing but I found a used one at a good price so I’ll have it for the rest of the testing. I also worked out a trade on a Gen 2 Galil Ace 5.56 rifle so it’ll make it into the test. The Makasi loaner is headed back to the manufacturer. I’ll probably try to get one as it is an impressive rifle, especially for the money.

The ACE is the best IMHO refinement of the AK series. You can't go wrong with it in any caliber.

Well lol 5.45 might be gamble due to ammo availability.

I have no regrets on mine.

Well, I’m having good luck this week. My XCR-M is getting bids to backfill (most of) my spend on the Scar, I bought the Makasi rifle I’ve been testing (and should be selling my first Templar to cover that cost) and I found a guy who was game for trading a Sig pistol for the Galil Ace I wanted for my test. When the dust settles, I’ll have every 5.56 gun I want to test without much financial pain in the process.

Very cool. We know the weights on paper, but how does the Ace feel compared to the Makasi? While I understand the ACE is more likely a better developed platform, just speculating, do you think the Makasi design is worth iterating with improvements? Or is is not an interesting enough design? It sure looks neat.
