45ProCarryI have only used Magpul Pmags in my LMT MWSE. They are easily affordable and extremely reliable.

Same, with my preference being the Lancers.

Dwill104I just use the Magpuls. I like the Lancers in 5.56, and I'm sure they are fine, but the price increase over the Magpuls in 7.62 don't justify me getting them.

3/4FlapI have an ArmaLite B model and one of the reasons I got it was for the older magazines.
Are there steel magazines made for the A Model/SR25/DPMS? Are they any good?

I agree which is why I only bought 5 for a primary loadout. The rest of the stash is Magpul.I do like the Lancers btter, not sure if they warrant the cost but in the big picture its a non issue.

Well, yes, but they can be fantastically expensive compared to the more "disposable" Magpuls.
I have a few LaRue 20 steel rounders, NIW, that I somehow bought for $25 each. They are still listed at $79.00 each on LaRue's site. I can't imagine there's much call for them these days. Even if they are better--it might become a beta-max v. VHS issue where the more plentiful, but inferior product eventually obsoletes the superior product by sheer market volume ("quantity has a quality all it's own").
KAC still makes 20 round magazines for their SR-25 guns (same pattern as magpul), and you can have one for the low, low price of ~$95. If that's still too pedestrian for you, you can try to buy an original shiny black waffle-pattern aluminum SR-25/AR-10 magazine from a collector

.
DPMS has a sale right now for their steel 20s for ~$25 each. I've never heard anything bad about these magazines, other than they are heavy compared to the Magpuls.
ASC offers the same magazine for $24.00 (I actually suspect that ASC is the OEM for DPMS on these magazines).
I know of one former [since I don't work there anymore] fellow-employee who took some Magpuls out into the Oregon high desert in 90+ degree temps and claimed that they warped and sagged in the heat. He ditched all of his Mapguls after that and switched back to steel. This was about 4 years ago. I do not know if he ever reported his experience to Magpul.

Interesting stuff.
I've heard bad reviews of Magpul mags as well, when subjected to severe climatic conditions as well as simply being left laoded full for a long time.
The ArmaLite B model mags have always hovered around $35 or so which I didn't find too bad. And as Gen 2's they have a very good reputation. I'll never wear out the ones I have.
I didn't know the steel mags for the A series type were that expensive.

My only concern with the AR10B pattern guns is that no one is making the receivers anymore, not even Armalite. I don't know if the magazines are being made anymore, but my guess would be "no."
While a bolt is more likely to wear out than a magazine, magazines are still expendable, if not disposable.

Yeah, for a while, LaRue and KAC were the only kids on that block. Most customers overlook the ASC/DPMS offerings in favor of Magpuls--I've never been in love with PMAGs and I prefer to keep a variety of magazines around, but I don't have a .308 class AR, so it hasn't been an issue for me. I do keep some .308 PMAGs around for trade fodder but if I had to feed a .308 AR (it'd be a 6.5 Creedmore, actually), I would go with Lancer's hybrid magazines with my existing Larue's as backup.

I haven't paid much attention to them, but they show a B model currently for sale. Maybe they have ceased production?
I think they will make mags for a long time as the most common AR10 out there is still {I think} the AR10B tho I might be wrong about that.
A wrecked lower would be a wrecked gun, to be sure, but I'm not worried about that. In my opinion, it would have been best if the market went with the ArmaLite Gen 2 mag/feed system, but it is understandable that it didn't go that direction.

badcopnodonut!!Thanks for the input all. I ordered a few Magpul. The Lancers are well outside what I want to pay for mags but I'm sure they are solid.
Brownells has their brand of mags on sale @ $9.99 if anyone is interested.

SigM4For Lancers, keep your eye on the DSG Arms website. Every once in a while you can catch them crazy cheap on there. That's the only time I buy them.

It's the SASS model and they probably just want to get rid of those. The B model is no more. They don't make those anymore.

I don't think they will make any more magazines either; the website shows them to be out of stock in all capacities. I bought a bunch some months back to guard against that. They may make more if there is demand for it, but I would not hold my breath. If you do not have many magazines, you should scour the web to see where you can buy some. I found some at Brownells months ago.

Yes, I was going off the ASC website, but it appears your link offers them at a significant discount from ASC's price.
