Sig Cross getting it done….hunting photo
Hello Guys,

My Son, Brother, and a few friends did our annual pig hunt this morning. Last year my buddy was looking for a trophy Razorback to have mounted and he surly got a big monster. This year we were all looking for meat hogs and were able to get what we were looking for.

I took this young male, my brother took the nice sow. They are both going to make for fine eating. For all you guys who shoot them and leave them for the buzzards, you are missing out for sure. They make great pulled pork Big Grin Big Grin.

On to the Sig Cross. I have been loading Hornady 123gr ELD M's for this gun and using it as a precision rifle. It does well in that capacity, but it is really a lightweight hunting rifle. I purchased some Hornady 123gr SST bullets and loaded them to the exact specs as my 123gr ELDM bullet. 38.3gr of Varget loaded to 2.67 OAL will get 2770 fps out of my 18 barrel. They hit to the same POA and maintained the same speed. I did not have to make a scope adjustment at all. That 123gr SST was like Thor's Hammer on the pig. I made a nice head shot and it was over. The Sig will become my new hunting rifle and the 123 SST my new hunting load.

I also have to mention my Son. We started this annual hunt when he was 15. He's is now 27 and was a real trooper today. When we awoke around 0315 to head out, his temperature was 102.5. I'm a Emergency Room Nurse and really wanted him to stay in and rest. He was like dad, I am not missing this time with you and Uncle Mike. Give me some DayQuil and pack the Tylenol. I have you a retired Corpsman and RN to take care of me. The pride swelled up in me at that point. He watched my back with a suppressed 300blk as I scanned for pigs. I love that boy.

We live in the best country in the world. Get out there and enjoy the great outdoors.

P.S. This is the real reason why the Sig Cross has been relegated to hunting duty. My new GA Precision 6mm GT Big Grin Big Grin.

If you remember my post from last year, Willie the pet pig was there yesterday. He is a big gentle giant.

Awesome stuff! Out there making memories.

I am impressed with your son's toughness. I rarely get sick and rarely let sickness slow me down. But fevers like that really knock me down. I'm not sure I would have made it out there if that were me.

He is a tough young man. 6” 230lbs. He definitely took after my wife’s side of the family body wise. All her brothers are big muscular guys. He got the brains from mom and dad….lol.

More like pulled pork. Big Grin he is too small and lean for bacon.
