I wonder what they were going for with that. Just to be different? Or perhaps to shave a few tenths of an inch off the diameter and make it slimmer?
But yes, that style likely would work. The main goal for me was to have a more circular/rounded grip area, as opposed to the more blocky/cross-shaped grip area of most of the 3-sided rails.
Here is a older video than might fill in some info for you. ALG Defense is no longer in business as itself. Geissele took over some of the product line when ALG closed. I think it was a family relationship.
I'm alright it's the rest of the world that's all screwed up!

Yep, husband/wife. He was Geissele, she was ALG. (Basically Geissele's budget line.)

I helped a friend assemble his first lower & the complete upper had a MI handguard on it, very much like how it felt in hand.

MWI are dehorned by tumbling them. I really like mine. No 1 or 3 position mlock slots though and I use an offset mount for my light. Not a big deal really but it's kinda nice to not have to add anything to one that has it. I like smooth bottom rails as well without the large shelf at the rear.

It's been a few years since I went handguard shopping, so what do you like in 2025 for free float AR handguards with the following criteria: - 15 inches - Continuous top rail - 7-sided MLOK slots (not just 3/6/9) - Relatively lightweight - $250ish or less (so a step or two below Geissele/Daniel Defense/Zev/etc.)
Bonus points if it's available from the factory in green/tan/brown color, but that's not a requirement.
Don't plan on nesting any suppressors or the like, so don't need oversized.
Have you looked at the Strike Industries Gridlock series? They don't have a continuous top rail but they have MLOK on top so you can add rail sections as needed.
