I picked up my Tread 8 days ago from a local gun shop. Bought it on a whim without researching first. I have to say, coming from an Oracle, I'm not disappointed. I have 330 round through it so far without fte's or ftf's. Accuracy i great. On to the complaints, of which there are 3. First, the handguard. It's heavy. The cross section at the bottom shows how much meat is on that thing. Adding to that, there could have been 2 more mlok slots on each side and the bottom, and extended the weight cuts all the way rear. As it is, the thing gets hot fast. The height of the guard is also an issue, forcing you to use Sig's slimmer proprietary rail section and sights. I did not want the sights because of the hor4ible reviews about lack of zeroing. I didn't feel like chopping the bottom of my mbus sight off just to make it work. Next: the proprietary barrel nut and gas block. Proprietary is fine. The issue is that, unless you are a Sig armorer, you can't get your hand on the wrench, even though Sig sells the nut. Luckily there are ways of getting it off without it. The gas block is press-pinned. That really sucks. You are more likely to mushroom the pin than to get it out with a punch and hammer. A press may work, but haven't tried yet. Unfortunately, this usually has to be done to replace barrel nuts for new handguards. The journal for the gas block is awfully short. I have yet to find a stainless clamp style gas block that isn't too long. This brings me to a handguard fix. Friday, at the same gun store and also on a whim, I picked up a Luth-AR 15" mlok handguard. I was going to attempt messing with the gas block and barrel nut. But for SnG's I dry fitted the new one. It slid over the stock barrel nut nicely. Cool. So I Tightened it down. Nice and tight. Now, the barrel nut for the Luth-AR is aggressively knurled, where the Sig nut is smooth. I was hoping that wasn't going to be an issue. My last pleasant surprize was, when I installed the 2 cap screws, they lined up perfectly with one of the grooves in the Sig nut. Now it isn't going anywhere and I didnt have to mess with the barrel. Now the rifle feels more balanced and my hand doesn't get so hot. I paid $85 for the Luth-AR handguard and it is about the same price on Optics Planet. It has a monolithic rail on top to use any buis you choose. It is a perfect handguard fix. Hope this helps. Now....if I could figure out how to upload pics.... | ||
