Gents,

Wednesday, the weather will be fine...clear and about 50 degrees. So, we are going to take "Reacher" and my DMR to the range for load development and testing. We'll be shooting the newish 169 grain Sierra Match King for accuracy and velocity. Should be fun.

The load will be a 169 gr SMK over 42.2 grains of IMR-4064. This in a new IMI Match case sparked by a Federal 210M primer and an OAL of 2.83".
This load has shot well before, but I want some velocity data and definitive accuracy data. We'll be using the 100 yd range...for now and then stretch that to 600 yards on the next outing.

We'll be using "Reacher", my Lothar-Walther heavy barreled M-14. The rifle is bedded into a McMillan M3A stock and has all accuracy work done to it. Benny 6 (Tony Ben, LLC) was the gunsmith on both rifles. The scope will be a Kahles 525i 5 x 25 scope VERY nice glass. The action is an LRB M-25 with integral scope rail.

The other rifle will be my LRB M-25 DMR with a medium weight USMC run barrel. Optics are a Leupold MK IV M3 3.5 x 10 that is correct for the DMR. This is bedded into a McMillan M2A desert camo stock and is has proven VERY accurate. Tony says it's the most accurate M-14 he's ever built. That's saying something.

Her's a pic of "Reacher" and one of the DMR.

Wes

lyman,

The Sierra 169 gr. SMK was developed about three years ago to provide a higher BC alternative to the 168 gr. SMK and the 175 gr. SMK.
The actual BC of the new 169 gr. SMK is .527 which is way higher than the older bullets. It's actually like shooting a 190 grain SMK ballistically. Really a break though that will allow the .308 to shoot much flatter than before. Thus, my wanting to test the new bullet. This should outperform the 168, 175 SMK and TMK's. Pretty heady stuff.

Where the 175 SMK requires about 15 MOA to shoot at 600 yards the new bullet will require about 12.5 MOA...that's considerably flatter shooting.
