All this shotgun talk... I ordered a 1301.

CooksterAll this shotgun talk... I ordered a 1301.
I watched this video by Langdon and Reese, and a few others that compare the 1301 and the A300 -
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0Jj2TC3dYAU&ra=mI was fully prepared to get the 1301, but for the reality of my intended purpose (home defense) and the likelihood of generally limited range time and practice, and the shipped-to FFL price of about $815.00 I purchased the A300 Ultima Patrol without a choke.
I may make some modest upgrades to it, such as the metal mag tube cover suggested above.
If I do, by some very slim chance become such a skilled and proficient semi-auto shotgun shooter that I am ‘out shooting’ my A300, then I would consider upgrading to the next level.

P220 SmudgeYeah, in fact, that's one of the videos that sold me on the 1301. I had a chance to pick up a new A300 Ultima Patrol with the Chisel stock at dealer cost around the first of the year because it was just sitting at the shop I worked at, but passed. I think while practical in that you can just mount a pistol dot on it right from jump, the Chisel stock is ugly as shit, so that didn't help it's case any, but also, I wanted to hold out for a 1301. Comparing the two directly in person as much as I wanted when there were no customers in the store, I knew I wanted the 1301 in the configuration I ordered. It was less about the money and the value proposition than the features and feel when it’s all said and done.

Dang... that's an understatement.
Even worse than the old Choate shotgun stocks, and those things were hideous.

P220 SmudgeI picked it up Friday on the way home from work. Was going to take it out yesterday with a friend who has access to the practical bays at our range, but we had a misfire about the timing and the desert is closed to shooting for the summer, so I'm gonna have to wait a bit to try it out. Initial impressions are that it's overall shorter, beefier and just a hair heavier than my M1S90. Feels fairly similar overall. Can't wait to compare shooting the two. I'm hopeful the gas system is a lot easier on me than the inertia system is. Feels really well made, but the comments I've seen about the factory Cerakote job being really delicate seem to be accurate so far. Receiver is a bit scratched up just from being jostled around in the shipping box. I'm not overly concerned, though - I wanted a shotgun I could use for practical shooting and it won't look brand new for long. I really like the pro lifter and how it operates, that's a nice little quality of life thing.
Now to figure out what I want to do about an optic for it. The go-to suggestions I'm seeing are the Holosun 509T, and the Steiner MRDS. I could also get a Strike Ind. universal pistol dot mount for it and throw an Osight SE on it and set it to the ring-only reticle. I may very well do that, honestly. Really liking my Osights. I could later "upgrade" to something more duty grade for it. I have a Holosun AEMS I'm not doing anything with because in the last year, I started seeing the reticle on it as five or six reticles overlayed and randomly and consistently offset, or I'd throw that on it. Holosun says it's astigmatism, Undoubtedly it is, but there's some way the Osights are put together where the dot is clearer to me than any other dot optic, so I guess we'll see. I have an eye appointment this week, I'm going to actually bring the AEMS with me and talk with my doc and see if it's my glasses (old lenses with the various coatings worn off did not do this) or what the deal is. If I can change my glasses and have that go away, the AEMS would be very usable on this shotgun.

CPD SIGThe chisel stock-
Yes, I agree it’s ugly, but it’s surprisingly comfortable to shoot. There’s a nice cheek weld to it.
And ANYTHING is more comfortable than the old Remmington 870 metal fold-over stocks!!!

sourdough44May I ask what’s a good or ballpark price for a 1301?
Should one wait for a sale at PSA or other sellers?

I’ve seen them for $1600-$1800 without any special configurations.
Crazy what they’ve gone up to, picked up two for 825$ and 850$ couple years ago.

I'm seeing them online for $1300-$1500 on the low end, with $1600+ being more typical at bigger online stores.
Figure out the SKU or UPC of the model you want and plug it into the search at
https://gun.deals/It'll show you a list of online dealers with that model in stock, ranked by price. Just understand that some of the lowest ones will be no-name drop shippers, some of which are good to go but others may be slow or have poor CS, so do your due diligence before buying. It can be worth the extra few bucks to buy from a more reputable shop.
But yeah, I still kick myself for not grabbing one when they were sub-$1k just a few years ago. Nowadays you have to stick with the A300 Patrol for a sub-$1k option.

Same here. I've watched these guns double in price.

I had a chance to compare my son's 1301 to my Benelli M4. All things considered, I would take the 1301 all day long. It might not have the durability of the M4 but I can't imagine ever coming close to wearing one out. I love the shorter buttstock and lighter weight over the M4.

P220 SmudgeWorking with it dry reloading the tube, I'm
really liking the pro lifter. That's a pretty big quality of life improvement I didn't think was going to be as big a deal as it is, especially after getting pretty used to the M1S90 and getting pinched occasionally (I know, thumb tip goes forward, not up, but hey), and especially spending some time with my Model 11's. I'm going to have to run down one of those later hinged A5 lifters for my SBS so I at least don't have to contend with pushing the release button just to load it, this 1301 is going to spoil me.

I had to sit back and think about how I phrased that, and my expectations of a cerakote job. "Really delicate" is probably going a bit far. The gun arrived with scratches, yes, but none of them are
through the cerakote, they're just
on the cerakote. Given the condition of the box, it probably has as much to do with how it was handled in transit as anything else. At the end of the day, cerakote is paint, and paint scratches. I know this. I think if it were chipping and flaking upon arrival, I'd be pissed. As it is, I'm just mildly disappointed. For the price, yeah, and all that, but honestly, with inflation and what
everything costs these days, I'm not all that upset about it at the end of the day. The left side receiver flat got most of it, and it'll either get velcro for shotgun cards, or a side saddle anyways, so it's really not that big a deal. Maybe cope, but whatever.

Yeah, and I kinda wished I'd picked one up then, but shotguns weren't really on my radar then, I was more interested in getting into NFA stuff. I had to come back around to the shotgun once I'd fairly thoroughly scratched that itch, and we all know what 2020 did to gun prices and nothing has really come back down since. Besides, this is a Mod 2, and comes with some improvements I could have made to the original 1301, but at added expense. I don't personally care about the trigger shape, but the pro lifter is a big deal and they apparently fixed some issues with the original bolt release causing some stoppages or accidentally unloading the whole magazine tube. Is it worth what they're asking for those changes and upgrades over the original version? I don't know. Again, inflation and all that. I try not to get too hung up on how expensive everything has gotten in recent years. Ain't a fucking thing I can do about it. Things cost what they cost and I can either choose to do the things I want to do, or not. Same thing with gas prices. It's all the same to me when I look at it that way.
Thread is sorely lacking pics. I gotta take my wife for an outpatient thing here shortly, and then be home to monitor her, so I'll have some time to take a family photo of the shotgun situation this afternoon. On that note, I also need to buy some hose clamps and a hacksaw, I've got an 870 I've been legally able to chop for a few months now that needs some attention as well.

In the meantime, I threw some peanut butter on the couch.

Blade37dbI bought a Gen 2 (not Mod 2) 1301T (straight stock) around 2020 "just because" for about $1100 (including tax). Didn't shoot it much for years but earlier this year I finally added the pro lifter, M-Lok handguard and Nordic extended mag tube (+2) for another $300 so about $1400 invested in total. Definitely worth it.

400mOh it’s definitely a nice shotgun. At the price point though, I’m gonna stick with my 870 for now. That would eat way too far into other toys I’m wanting right now.
Thanks for letting me warm up that barrel CPD!

Hideous like this one LOL? I received a lot of comments on how butt ugly it was but actually it's a terrific feeling stock. It resides somewhere in a parts box.
