The 716i tread is labeled as 7.62x51 chambering, is this accurate or is it really 308? Is it good to go for 308 pressures? DPR

I’d like to know as well as I’m considering a 716i. My general understanding is that you should not run .308 in a 7.62 chamber (kinda like the reverse of the .223/5.56 situation).

This is what SIG says on their website: Q: This same rifle, Manufacturer #: R716I-16B-TRD is advertised on other websites at .308 Winchester caliber. I realize 7.62 NATO is a similar caliber, but is not exactly the same. Will this gun shoot .308 Winchester ammunition? A: The 716 series of rifles are chambered in 7.62x51 and although .308 does have higher pressure you can use this round reliably and safely in the 716 rifle.
