I have had this gun for a few years and up until last week was using just peep sights. At 50 yards, the gun will hold under an inch with cheap Federal Automatch. Alas, my eyes are not what they used to be, so I decided to scope the rifle and see what it is really capable of.

I mounted up a SWFA fixed 10x which is an outstanding scope that adjusts down to 10 meters. I then shot several different types of ammo which all shot well. The Eley Match is the clear standout. That ammo consistently shot the tightest groups.

I’m going to use this rifle to shoot our local rimfire matches and was humbled after shooting the 25 shot target used in those matches with my 457 varmint. My first time was a 1845 out of a possible 2500. This gun shoot better than the 457, so I hope to do better next time using this gun to shot the same 25 shot target.

Here are my targets from today’s shooting.

Nice shootin, Tex. That Fed Automatch target is a little surprising. My guns shoot all over the place with that stuff. The Eley Match targets are not surprising. Best bang for the buck in .22 for target shooting if you get a good lot. 8-10 cents /round cheaper than tenex or center x too. Did you shoot that 1845 on factory or unlimited?

Those are some excellent groups, and to get groups like that requires not only a good gun and ammunition, but shooter skill as well.
Looking forward to learning how you do in the next match.

That’s very impressive.
What’s the Picatinny rail you mount the SWFA scope on?
I have a 457 Luxe, a 452 Luxe, and a 457 Match Target. Unfortunately because of moving I have not had the chance to shoot them for quite a while.
I have a bunch of Wolf Ammo but not the Eley.

May have to look to see if I can get Eley directly given the recent Ninth Circuit panel ruling that ammo registration is unconstitutional.
Yeah, it’s either out of stock or, in the case of Lucky Gunner, they no longer ship to CA. I emailed them but doubt that will matter.

Hey, Doc. Killough Shooting Sports is keeping a close eye on this California thing. Click on the "California Shipments Update" tab on their homepage.

Those are fantastic rifles.

With match ammo, the long barrel is almost as good as having a silencer, as the powder on a 22lr has all burnt in a 28" barrel.

Thank you for the kind words. This rifle makes me look good. The barrel is so long that I just push it onto the target and viola, tight groups Big Grin

The scope rail is an EGW CZ 0 MOA rail?

The 1845 was shot on a factory target. It was also not shot in a match. I just wanted to see how I would do on my own.

I also shot that target using a 457 Varmint and Wolf Match on a very windy day. I think once I learn to read the wind, that gun would do better in a match. It is capable and shoots well.

1845 is no slouch score on that target. Especially if you're not used to shooting ARA. If you're going to do factory match competition, pick up a couple of packs of unlimited targets for practice. After shooting 20 or so of those, the 100 ring on the factory target looks huge. Be safe and Have fun! Oh, and nice rifle BTW. Smile

I shot two targets today with the Super Exclusive. I did much better. I hope to shoot a real match on 19 Sep.

What happened on #3 on the second card? That's pretty out of character. Did you get stung by a bee or something? Big Grin

Kidding, of course. Nice cards both.

Don't know how it is by you but, around here in factory matches, there's always 8-10 2500's with the X count determining who wins. I was shooting them with my Ruger precision and always coming up short. First thought it was ammo, then thought it was me, then realized the rifle wasn't capable of doing any better after locking it in a vice and running some targets. Traded it yesterday and I am the proud new owner of a CZ 457 Varmint MTR. (best I could find and still keep it under that pesky required MSRP maximum). Have to wait for this month's check to get it set up to shoot though.

Best of luck in Sept. Definitely let us know how you do and try a few unlimited targets for practice before then. You'll be surprised at the difference it makes.
