This will mostly be my truck gun to pair with the Glock 20 SF.
I was thinking 10.5” not too short, not too long.
Any thoughts on Brownells stainless barrels?

You can also plug muzzle velocity data into this calculator: http://gundata.org/ballistic-calculator/ to see more detailed performance numbers for various rounds. I used this calculator to determine a 25 yard zero was probably best for my 9mm AR. I settled on 10.5" for that AR pistol, as it seemed there were diminishing returns for increased barrel length. However, I wish I had sacrificed just a little more performance to get an 8" barrel. A friend has an 8" 9mm AR, and that 2.5" difference makes it balance better, and of course it's just that much more compact.

I'd run some calculations for your preferred round, and try to balance size/weight savings v. performance, and find a compromise that works for you.

No way 16". 10.5" of those choices, but I'd want a 4"-8" ideally and a can. 8-8.5 would be a solid option with a standard 7" length rail if someone makes that length

I know you've been talking 10mm for at least a couple years (since the cheap Rainier uppers from 2 years back at least), but why not a 357 Sig or .40? Purely for giggles as i have been thinking of a glock mag lowered 357 Sig myself. Either way, 10mm ar will complement that 220 Legion nicely.

Because I can’t afford a Mp5 clone in 10mm.
And yes that stripped lower I bought years ago is what I will be using as it has done great on my 9mm.
I just really like 10mm. Have tons of Ammo and components.
I got rid of my 220 10mm for a Glock 20SF and money to finally build the gun. I have had the need to trim the herd or trade around for guns I will actually utilize.
The 220 10mm was too heavy for my woods gun with diminished capacity so I reluctantly went with the 20SF. This AR will pair nicely with the 20SF as it shares mags.

I would love to see a complete parts list, once it's done.
If, that is, you don't mind someone cribbing off of your experience Wink
I really want to build one.

Plans have now been put on hold again as I don’t even want to guess what the emergency appendectomy I had to have last night is going to cost.

But planning for:
New Frontier Stripped Lower (ordered yesterday)
Rainer slick side upper (have had for years)
10.5” Brownells Stainless barrel
SB Tactical SBA3 Brace
XH buffer and Wolff XP spring or KVP 10.5 tungsten buffer
Magpul midlength handguard with YHM folding front sight base.
KVP Linear Comp
New Frontier BCG
Colt LPK if I can find one or a Red Barn Armory LPK with LaRue trigger.

Sorry to hear about the trip to the hospital, but glad you're on the mend.

Since I never answered the original question, my 9mm is on an 11" barrel. Seems to balance well for me and is compact enough without being too short. Feels like about a 9" 5.56 gun since barrel doesn't have the threaded on feed ramps.

Wow, very sorry to hear about that, and I hope the recovery is quick, and the bill is small.

When you do this, please let me know whether this actually makes a difference in sound at the shooter's ear. I've been debating getting one of these.
