I have an employee that has hunting land with a major hog problem. I don't have a scope on any of the guns that are hog worthy.

The position is 105yd from the hogs. I don't want to go crazy but want a decent scope. It will likely go on my 300blk pistol.

I also have a Leupold MarkAR Mod 1 1.5-4x that works like a champ,


as far as pistol,,,
don't have an AR pistol, so not sure what you may need,

thought about a red dot (primary arms,,,)

I think this Leupold would work great for your hog application. It's a VX1 which is the lower end of Leupold's line but still a quality scope. Less than 10 oz.

I have a Nikon P-223 3X32 BDC scope on one of my AR's.
It is very bright and clear.
Shooting coyote sized objects out to 200-300 yards is not hard.
The low magnification allows a wide field of view and excellent eye relief. It also has zero resettable turrets.
If sighted in at 200 yards (with a 55 grain bullet and a 16" barrel), it has reticle markings for 400 and 600 yards

From bebbies to 300lbers. Was planning on using 110gr Barnes.

At 105 yards, I would purchase an Aimpoint PRO which would double as an excellent self-defense scope.

I have been really enjoying the Vortex Spitfire on my Ruger...with the 3"-4" eye relief it would not be for an AR pistol...but for a rifle it is almost perfect...

The guy involved uses a 6.8 spc with night vision but has popped some with a 17hmr

Everyone who says you don't need magnification at 200 yards or less doesn't shoot at arrays of small targets at speed.


You could make a darn good case for 2-7x optics as well. Myself I like the option of true 1x on the low end. If it were solely for hunting, a 2-7x with a bigger objective lens definitely has merits.

Yep, agree with this. Not sure if it's in your budget or not, but I have hunted a lot of hogs in low light with a Trijicon TR20-2G 3-9x40. Several of my hunting buddies are also running this exact scope.

The objective size, excellent glass, and dimly illuminated center dot make a very big difference for shooting hogs that are often dark colored, at low light or at night. A few years ago Bill Wilson picked it as the best low light hog hunting optic that he had found. You actually don't want a reticle that is illuminated too brightly as it can wash out the rest of your sight picture.

Being able to zoom in when they are hanging out just in the edge of the thicket was also very useful to pick out exactly what you were looking at.

Assuming you will be in GA, have you considered using a light since they are legal? I also use the XLR100 green LED mounted to my rifle (in states where it's legal of course). It enables clear shots out to 150 yards in the dead of night and doesn't scare the hogs. It also makes it much less critical that you have a high quality or expensive low light scope. As long as you have something with an illuminated reticle you could get away with pretty much any average 1-4x scope with a small objective if using the XLR100 along with it.

Almost any low power scope will do for that application. Like most have said, a 1-4, or a 2-7 is about right. Or a fixed power scope. No more than a 4X.

Nikon's mid-range/price scopes are good, So are Leupold.

Saw a big sale on the Millet at Midway. %40 off.

Maybe something there for you like the 1-6?
