http://www.thefirearmblog.com/...-combo-guns-44825899 The headline at TFB promises EAA's new combination guns will be "affordable", but so far there seems to be no information on prices, barrel lengths or chamberings. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes available. I have (and am still a fan of) a couple of Baikals that came in before Russian imports were cut. I've fooled with a couple of the Chiappas and Savage's recent plastic fantastic and wasn't terribly impressed with accuracy, build quality or relative ease of use. The EAA guns are produced in Turkey by a company called Balikli, which I initially misread as "Baikal". Four things kind of stand out from the pictures in the article in comparison to the guns I've mentioned above - - the barrels look like they're a bit on the short side. This shouldn't really affect performance in .22LR/MAG barrels but, depending on the chambering purchased, may leave shotgunners wishing for a slightly longer barrel. - the stocks come with what looks to me like a fairly pronounced pistol grip, which may actually make the guns a bit handier than the Baikals, Chiappas and Savages. - the guns come with iron and fiber optic sights, but also have a rail on the back end of the top barrel. - the guns open by a common shotgun-type lever on the wrist rather than by using the trigger guard as a lever like the Baikals. IMHO the Baikal set-up is fiddly and requires a bit more physical effort to use than necessary. Now, I guess, we'll have to wait and see what shows up, when it shows up and how the market will price what shows up when it shows up. | ||
