mlazarusI've never seen an agreed upon length or definition of carbine, except a shorter, or more compact rifle. What that means feels like it would be open to interpretation. I generally considered an M-4 a carbine and the M-16 a rifle.

Well, naturally... It's right there in their formal military designations, after all:
Rifle, Caliber 5.56mm, M(odel)16
Carbine, Caliber 5.56mm, M(odel)4

Hamden106Model 70 Carbines have 20" barrel. Regular length in the same calibre is 24"
