RogueJSKBolt actions and Semi Auto rifles
With a competent shooter behind the trigger, I'd be more surprised if any modern rifle
couldn't do at least 5" groups at 150 yards.
Action type wouldn't even be a factor here, with such loose accuracy requirements.

jhe888The conventional wisdom is that bolt guns will be more accurate. But I think that with some semi-auto designs, you can get very good accuracy.
Maybe the quickie answer is that, on average, the bolt guns will be more accurate, but that in any given comparison between two guns, a semi may be as or more accurate.

Using the same grain weight ammo.
On average the Bolt Action will do better but that you have to understand that there are several other variables in the equation other that just if semi-auto or bolt action.
Shooter ability, optics, trigger, load, barrel, conditions just name a few.
It could go either way but if you have the best of the best in every category, my money goes with BA.

If it's the money, and it should be at today's ridiculous prices, then buy one rifle and try different ammo until you get the accuracy you want.
Using the set-up from the original post is going to leave you with a rifle you don't use much compared to the one you end up preferring. Which is OK, but again, the money.
