I recently acquired this beautiful rifle on a tip from a friend. It's a Dutch production Guatemalan pattern AR-10 from around 1962, rebuilt on a semi-auto Sendra lower ca. 1984 or so. Also got seven extra magazines and a new/old stock handguard in the deal.

Here are the extra mags and handguard:

Cool! It looks like the NCR trooper rifle from Fallout.

That is a super cool score.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend picking up a copy of Joseph Evans' "The Armalite AR-10: World's Finest Battle Rifle". It's an outstanding history of the design and use of the AR-10 rifle.

That is about the ultimate want for my AR list!

Fortunately our beloved leader blessed be his name has decreed that anything like that would be just super extra eeeeevil. So my build plans with a Brownells Retro receiver are on hold.

Would be so much better to have an original set on the Sendara receiver!

I still think we came out on the short end when we went with the T44.

thanks...Malysh already directed me to that and have it in hand. Ironically, when I called in to make payment, I was sitting in a restaurant just a block from the original Interarms office on Prince St in Alexandria VA (in sight of). Samuel Cummings of course played a BIG part in the AR-10 being marketed overseas.

I've always loved those.
Can anyone tell me what the purpose of that trigger shaped feature in the carry handle is for?

As PGT knows, I have 2 AR10s. A Sudanese and a Portuguese. I also have numerous magazines representing all 4 magazine patterns, both pattern bayonets, spare parts and an extensive collection of original promotional brochures.

I had no idea there was any interest in these historically important rifles here. I think I will post some pictures in a separate thread later in the week.

That's the charging handle. Forgotten Weapons has some videos covering the pattern differences over time.

That is the charging handle. When the rifle was redesigned and scaled down to the successor rifle, the AR15, the charging handle was redesigned to the rear of the upper receiver as we know it today. Under firing conditions the original charging handle became too hot to operate due to it's proximity to the chamber. Actually some of the earliest AR15s still retained the charging handle in this area, soon to be redesigned.

Here's one of the "missing links" between the platform, known as "Proto-1". The scaled down AR-10 design but in .222 which later became .223/5.56 NATO. You'll see the similarities quick clearly.

This is truly a tool room prototype, not a production or even testing/engineering example.

Such a great looking space age design. I hope I am lucky enough to stumble across one eventually.
