Looking at adding a rifle in 270 win to go along with a suppressor (and most likely thermal at some point) for pig hunting down here in FL. As I have an older Savage 110 in 30-06 that has dropped everything that it hits, I was considering another Savage. I took a nice FL 8 point buck this past Sunday on opening weekend. However, Tikka keeps coming up as favorable over the Savage when browsing current models.

Looking at a synthetic stock with stainless barrel to keep maintenance low. I love the look of wood stocks, especially that of a Winchester model 70 featherweight, but in and out of buggies and walking through the thick stuff here in FL would take it's toll. Being that I'm going to need a threaded barrel, should I be looking at the regular Tikka T3x over the light option or does it not matter?

Just came across the Tikka T3x lite Roughtech that comes thread and has synthetic stock with stainless barrel so that may be the leading candidate.

My deer rifle is a Tikka T3x Lite Stainless in 270
Absolutely love it, do it!

Would not hesitate to buy another.
Wanted the superlight or featherlight [can't remember what the model was then] with the fluted barrel & bolt. Mostly thought it looked nice.

My vision sucks, so I put a relatively huge scope on mine. Nikon Monarch 5 4-20x50
Weighs about 8lbs unloaded.
First trip to the range, put 5 shots in 3 holes with about a 1.25" spread at 100yds

The Enemy's gate is down.

If you are a Cabela's (BassPro) member this Tikka is a very good deal, on sale plus a $75 rebate:

Tikka T3x Lite

I own two of these as well as a couple Roughtech T3xs. All are excellent rifles.

By the way it is stainless with a cerakote finish.

I own several Tikka rifles and in view of the effort by the Colorado Communists to classify any gun with a threaded barrel as an “assault weapon” and therefore subject to stringent infringements, my latest purchase was a T3x Compact Tactical Rifle in 308 Winchester that I reviewed here.

As pictured with the scope, rings, Arca/Picatinny forend rail, muzzle brake and slightly heavier CTR/Tactical magazine, but without the rear monopod, the rifle weighs exactly 10 pounds.

I own other Tikka rifles as well, and they all meet Tikka’s sub-MOA precision guarantee with proper ammunition. If I were still a hunter and wanted something lighter than the CTR, I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another Tikka.

The current $75 rebate offer is nice too, and I think I’ll apply for it even though my purchase was a couple of months before the start period. All they can do is say no. Wink

Edited: Forgot to make clear that the 10 pound weight included the scope and rings as well.

Well, I just applied for the rebate and the request was accepted despite the purchase date being in March 2024, so we shall see.

As I think about it, I applied for a free magazine offer some time ago, and if I recall correctly that was outside the proper date range as well, but I ultimately did get the mag.

And thanks to sprg03-A3 for mentioning the rebate offer. I had seen it before but not paid any attention until I looked at it closer. I may not get it myself, but it was at least the effort to apply.

No .270, but a nicely set up rifle. I’m trying to find an FFL to order one or two to.

If I couldn’t find what I wanted in 270 Winchester, I’d take a look at 6.5 Creedmoor, to include comparing ballistics. I haven’t done that myself, but I suspect they would be similar in some ways. Because the 6.5 Cm has become so popular there are any number of good factory loads for the cartridge.

I went with the Tikka ember roughtech in 270win. I searched on GB and saw a seller who was open to offers. Their name on GB matched their store name out in Utah. I contacted them directly and they gave me a solid out the door price shipped to my FFL here in Tampa.

Now I have to figure out my optic/thermal set up. Was originally thinking of a Trijicon Accupoint with AGM Rattler clip on but not sure if the constant tritium will work with the picture of the Rattler. Waiting to hear back from AGM on this.

I own that same rifle in 243. You will be very happy with it.

I have several tikkas that I shoot suppressed. Most of the factory options tikka has have barrels that are far too long to use with silencers so I’ve sent all mine in to get cut, threaded and flared out so I can just thread my silencers on without adapters. I’ve got all of them at about 18” threaded for 5/8x24.

To close the loop on my request for the Tikka rebate, mine was declined due to my purchase being outside the specified time period.

I think that this is an important observation! I think that after people have tried it once they will not want to hunt with a suppressed rifle with a barrel longer than 22" unless they are sitting in a blind or fixed location. Far better as newmexican posted is 18". In the woods having a bulbous 4-6" tube on the end of your 24" barrel is a major PITA!

When considering hunting with a suppressor on the move you should consider the caliber and choose one that works efficiently in shorter barrels and realize the lower velocities you'll be getting and don't overcompensate by overcharging your loads to high pressures.

Tikka's are for certain excellent rifles. Off the shelf I would think that the shorter 308 is a far better suppressor host than a 24" fluted barrel 270 or especially magnum calibers. FWIW I have identical rifles with 19" barrels in 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. With manual listed loads I can get 2600fps with 165gr bullets in the 308 and 2500fps with 143gr bullets in the 6.5 CreedMoor (might get faster if I could buy RL 26). In my mind the 308 is a little more efficient in the short barrel velocity wise.

Remember, this is all supposed to be for fun...................

No biggie. It was worth the effort to try, but not something I expected. Smile
