Hey can you convert a m1a to shoot 458 win mag? I saw some guy has a m1 garand that does.

Is this possible?

They say you can rebuild that old warbird starting just with the data plate, and boatloads of $$$.

Of course I don’t know the answer, but how much of the original gun would be present?

I saw the m1 and was like holy crap. I would not do that to a garand. I do have a m1a i dont shoot and would do that to however.

My guess is the 458 would be too long for the M1A action. It can be done in a garand since it has a 30/06 length action.

Bula did offer some 458 SOCOM M14's but they used redesigned barrels and gas cylinders to handle the increased diameter of the .45 round.

Has it been done? Yes, in .458 SOCOM. Can it be done now with available barrels and gas cylinders? No, unless you find one of the Bula barrels from years ago.

Damm. How did they do this with a garand?

358 Winchester was a factory round by Springfield in the M1A.

I suppose anything is possible if your budget is big enough.
