I am fairly inexperienced with lever guns. I used to own a Winchester 94 in 30-30 years ago and foolishly gave it away. I have since bought a couple Henry’s in various calibers. I added Ranger Point peep sights on the couple that came with semi buck horns. While I was perusing their website I noticed a small knobbed screw that they sell to replace the lever screw. I have read that a lever gun sometimes has to have the bolt removed to clear a bad malfunction. I figured this was an easy swap with no downside. I installed it and it snugs down with a tiny O ring for security. It is easy and toolless to remove the bolt now. Was this necessary or even desirable or did I just buy another gadget?
Full disclosure I also bought the stock knobbed screw as well. That one seems less useful unless I take the rifle down. I think I know the answer on that one.

On a Marlin you have to remove the lever to remove the bolt, so in that issue I’d think a knurled hand operated screw would be handy. But in. 94 copy you have to remove screws to remove pin for the bolt and a bunch of other screws

I guess it beats having to keep a screwdriver with you at all times, but as stated above, I have never had a jam with a lever gun either. Do you have pics?

Yea I can do pics now. On a Henry if you take out the lever screw the bolt comes out so on Marlins and Henry’s this will work. I bought the blacked out version, it is fairly unobtrusive and I’ve now taken the bolt out about a dozen times now. Good to hear about the malfunctions. My practical knowledge of lever guns is a couple boxes of 30-30 decades ago and John Wayne. That’s it. I love them but I’m a pup, everything is a learning experience. The takedown screw knob is also very tasteful and unobtrusive and probably a waste of money.
I do love the Ranger Point peeps though. They clearly have a bigger (lower mainly) range of adjustment. I think the stock front sights will be gtg.
