I’m up and getting ready for work and my spouse said “for Fathers Day buy yourself a gun, I’ll pay for it.”

So, decisions, decisions. What do I get? The 365 AXG Legion? A Berette 92FS? S&W 642UC or the Performance Center Bodyguard? Ruger Charger SBR?

My friend of close to 60 years is trying to get me into deer hunting on some private land with him and a couple others, combine that with the changes in Michigan rifle zones I can now use necked cartridges here. So maybe a 6.5 Creedmore? There’s a nice new Browning in that caliber on the sale rack at work, hmmm, what do I choose?

Nope, I chose a Ruger 10-22. Used gun. Walnut stock. A couple small scratches in the finish, bluing all over looks like new. Oh, a “small” detail, a four digit serial putting it’s build date in the early part of 1965. I couldn’t let it get away. Also included were two of the early 10-22 magazines WITH the box they were sent in.

I’ll get a Pic rail this week and transfer the Vortex Crossfire II from my 1991 10-22 to it. I’m leaning towards converting that one into the Charger configuration now.

Congrats! A man can never have enough 1022s, I have 6, 5 rifles and one charger. You can always SBR that 91 model but it can never be a charger, once a rifle always a rifle.

Yes, if I do it it’s planned to become a SBR.

4 digit SN Ruger 10/22? And in good shape?
Pretty good Fathers Day present!

In recent years, I’ve gravitated back to shooting my 10/22, and love it! Nothing but a simple, reliable and accurate gun that’s fun to plink away with!

It’s almost pristine, a couple scratches in the stock, should touch up with Ole English. Someone sold it to the gun shop I work at.

I’m going to take the Vortex Crossfire II off of my 1991 vintage 10/22, another trade in at work. That one while nice isn’t as nice as this 1965 model.

I agree, they are great plinkers, just a fun little gun to shoot.
