Since this is the Sig forum, I just wanted to start a thread in praise of the SSG3000. I know they are not still in production (I think there are problems getting barrels from Germany), but when discussing out of the box bolt action rifles that are/were a great value the Sig rarely gets mentioned.

I got mine about a year ago, and it is an absolute hammer. I know everyone always brags about their groups - usually cherry picking their best ones, but this rifle really is a tack driver.

Just got back from the range and shot 4 consecutive 5 shot groups at 100 yards using FGMM ammo. Groups were .35", .45", .50" and 1.2". Yes the last group had a flyer (actually my last shot), but even including that group (since I'm not going to cherry pick) groups average at .625". This is absolutely typical of the rifle (actually worse than usual because of that one crappy group). I have also shot a 1.2" 20 shot group with this rifle, so it's pretty damn consistent.

And of course, I am less than perfect, so a better shooter could get even better groups.

Pretty good for a rifle that retailed for $1500 and could often be found for less. It would be great if Sig could figure out a way to bring back this rifle.

yeah - "move it back" - note the Boston address.

We're lucky to get to 100 yards in NE. a class at Sig Academy is about the only way I can get to 1,000 yards.

so, 1" dot drills, or trying for little groups is the test.

That said - I too like my SSG 3000, and wish Sig would find a way to bring it back. Maybe this time as a chassis rifle...

Actually, my local club is able to set up for "long range" shooting, although we have to close down the pistol range to do it. So it only happens 3-4 times a month. However, in this case long range is 300 yards. If it's calm I can shoot 2" groups at this distance. I would love to do some real long range shooting, but as others have pointed out living approx. 15 miles outside of Boston that's a challenge.
