Great trigger, great components, chrome moly, 1:7 twist. Great feeling trigger.

So back in the day Armalite made very good stuff. Still the case?

Thanks
Chris

I really like their LTC in 7.62x39 so far, but I've only got about 300 rounds through it. Certainly nothing wrong has cropped up in that short period of time. Having said that, it's older stablemate (another 7.62x39) does heat up pretty quickly but the barrel still shoots pretty well when its hot.

The only down side I can see is that Armalite's prices don't seem to be dropping as far or as fast as those of some other AR makers. The only potential downside is that I think their KMR handguards are heavier than they really need to be.

Still make a great rifle with a great warranty.

I really like their stock 2-stage trigger.

I have seen quite a few of their rifles in the hands of 3-gunners. Including the likes of Greg Jordan.

Quality stuff.

I am a big fan of their handguards, the way they are designed and the way they attach. You do not have to index the barrel nut in order for the handguard to be square to the upper receiver rail. Their anti-rotation tabs are enormous compared to smaller tabs I have seen on other handguards, which I have seen pictures of them sheared off.

I also am a fan of the way that the cross bolts thread into steel nuts that lie recessed in the aluminum handguard. What does that mean? You aren't torquing into aluminum threads that will easily strip. And if you ever do manage to strip out either a nut or mess up the cross bolt, you can buy a replacement at a hardware store, not have a trashed handguard.

Well I took the plunge on a M15TAC18. For $1100 bucks it is out of the box everything I want.
7075 alloy
Light very comfortable forearm
Good barrel
18 inch
1 in 8 twist
Magpul stock and backup sights
The raptor charging handle is a bonus
Ambi selector
The trigger on the 16 inch I played with was VERY nice for a non drop in non Geissle affair.
Plenty of mounting options.
T marked rail etc.
good staked gas key (on the 16 I looked at)
The brake flash hider.....well I have no idea how it will work but it looks cool. Smile

Just seems well thought out and made with quality components.

At 1,400 I was gonna pass and maybe go DD or BCM. At 1100 I figured what the hell.

I have several ArmaLite ARs, including an NM M15 and most recently and AR-10b (T) bought 2 years ago. They have all be flawless, but I did upgrade lots of internal parts, because I like to do that.

FWIW, the LTC cost a little more than I really wanted to pay but I have yet to regret having bought it. I'm trying to figure out exactly what kind of 18" 7.62x39 I'd like to build, but after shooting the carbines I wound up starting with receivers, a BCG and a receiver extension from Armalite.

Well I guess we will see. I have an aimpoint and surefire scout set aside for it and some Gold Dot 64 grain stuff to try.

I doubt I will be able to give a real accuracy review as initially at least this is meat to be a dot sighted close in type affair and I have some astigmatism so although dots allow quick hits for me I cannot eek out precision.

I am fairly excited. This my first "modern AR" I have a couple old school bushmasters that have been great (from back when they were a preferred choice, the ABC days "Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt" but they are A2s and although I have one set up with an ACOG and it works well I was ready for something modern and wanted an 18 incher.

I'm also curious to play with a Wylde chambered rifle. It intrigues me. Never shot one but I like what I read.
