GustoferLike a kid at Christmas...
...who has to fill out a 4473 to get his presents.

I've been waiting 50 years for today and I finally decided to "pull the trigger". I am now the proud owner of a brand spankin' new Weatherby Mark V Deluxe in 7mm Weatherby Mag. I've been drooling over this rifle since I was a kid, always wanting one and never wanting to spend the money for one, but I said, "If not now, when?", and just did it.
When I was a kid, I remember going into Reed's Sporting Goods on Main Street. You'd walk up to the gun counter and see the rifles all lined up on the rack. They had every brand you could want. Letting your eyes wander down the selection, you'd see that familiar diamond on the bottom of the stock and you just knew that that was the pinnacle of rifles. Dad had one and he treated it better than he did his own kids.
Fast forward 50 years and a whole lot more money than the $300 they went for back then, I finally have my grail gun.
She's almost too pretty to shoot.
Now to get the glass put on. I ordered the wrong rings, so I'll have to wait until next week to take her out for a test drive, but once they come in I'll get it bore sighted and head to the range to get zeroed. Looking forward to it.

2000Z-71Very cool! I remember my dad telling me stories of going into Weatherby’s Sporting Goods in Los Angeles in the 1960’s and looking at Mark V Deluxes but not being able to justify spending $200 on a rifle.
When I decided I needed to upgrade my elk rifle from a Winchester 70 in 7mm Magnum, I didn’t want to have my father’s regret of not buying a Weatherby so I ordered a Mark V Accumark in .340 Weatherby Magnum. One of the most accurate rifles I own and it has always produced a one shot drop.
Enjoy it!

GustoferYeah, I have a .257 mag Vanguard that I just love, and it's remarkably accurate (and packs a whallop). I'm guessing this one will be the same.

clipper1Functional fine art! Enjoy. I can relate to your reasoning of "if not now, when?".

GustoferFinally got to the range today. Bore sighted at home at 50y put me on the paper about a foot high and 6" right at 100y. Three shots later and I'm 1/2 MOA and 2" high which puts me in the lungs as far as I want to shoot. Perfect. Man I love this rifle! It's just that perfect sweet spot between a 270 (good enough) and 300 (too much). Wish I'd have bought it years ago.

armoredGorgeous rifle!
I suffered from the same Weatherby lust as you when I was a kid, it followed me into adulthood.
I now have 6.
Unfortunately, most have synthetic stocks but I still like the Mark V actions.
My two favorites are a Weatherby Athena over under in 12 gauge and a Mark V Lazermark in 257 Weatherby Magnum. Both have the most beautiful wood and metal I could ever hope for.
I enjoy shooting them but always worry about damaging the finish.
I wish the major scope makers would offer there scopes in high luster blueing like the days of old. The 257 suffers having the matte finished Steiner scope and rings siting on top of the rich high gloss blueing on the rifle.
My Weatherby collection;
Lazermark 257 magnum
30-06 9 lug Mark V
375 Weatherby DGR Mark V
(2) 12 gauge pumps
Athena over under
