Well it’s 2024, and yet again, I start the year without this firearm.

I have had the opportunity to overpay on one several times, once getting within 500 bucks of winning an auction. I just can’t wrap my head around paying $6500 bucks for one. Especially because It’s going to end up an SBR’ing it.

I have a 553 and shot it with frequency. No it’s not an HD gun and yes the tech is older, but I really do enjoy shooting it.

This is like the MP5 conundrum I faced. I bought an MPX, put a few things into it (charging handle, tri lug mount for en EVO-9) and the urge for the MP5 is gone. I just hope a 10mm clone never appears.

Wondering from those who have shot it, if it’s really worth lusting over or it’s just the unobtanium factor at this point.

Have you asked JDI if they can order a 551sb for you?

Unless you just have to have an older one, JDI would be half the price and available

That poor man (Jdi) has had many an email from me. No 551 SBs as of recent. My 553 is a JDI import.

Buy another 553 or one of the recent non-JDI import PE90s, a 551 short barrel and gas system, and have the barrel swapped.

Personally, the 551 short barrel is my favorite 55x variant. But it’s not life changing and it won’t handle or shoot much different than your 553.

I ran into these a few years back. One or both were used in the Miami Vice movie IIRC- not similar examples; these actual rifles.

Actually I recall Dave saying Sig 551sb's were coming in 2024 on a SIG facebook group in November.

ATF has already approved permits and will have 553LB (sold out) 553R (sold out) 751 16” (will open preorders soon). Q1 will be more 553SB & LB, few more 553R and 551 SB & LB. I don’t know build specs as of yet but that’s what coming in the near future. Maybe a few surprises thrown in the mix as well.
