Is there a serial number database for the SIG 556 and can a SIG folding stock & the newer type of hand guard also be installed on the early models that had the hand guard with the rails on the top, bottom & sides and were not popular Thanks.

Any Sig556 handguard will work on any Sig556. However the folding stocks only work on lowers that aren’t setup for a buffer tube. If you have a buffer tube lower, there is an aftermarket stock that looks very similar from AGP Arms.

I just realized I should clarify that the hand guards are length dependent…in other words, hand guards are interchangeable between pistol versions of the 556, as well as the “patrol” rifle versions. Conversely, hand guards are interchangeable between the full length rifle versions. You could use an Sig classic SWAT rail on an early Sig556, or the early fishgill handguard on a Sig556 Classic. You could also use a Sig551 handguard. However you couldn’t use any of them on a Sig556 pistol or patrol.

Sig had a factory folding stock for the buffer tube style lowers, and some aftermarket companies sell folding stock adapters for those style lowers too.

There's even a way to put this folding stock on a SIG556 Cool
