Which M1A as gift for Marine?
Well guys, thanks for all the input. I finally bought it. I wanted a standard wood stocked SA M1A because that seemed most “Marine” but they didn’t have any and couldn’t get any they said. What I ended up with was the black composite stocked standard M1A rifle. It’s a beaut and it’s classic and I figure I can always upgrade him to a wood stock down the road. The rifle itself is a big old thing. That 22 inch barrel is looong. The sights are fantastic. I think he will love it. We got his 2nd letter today. Sounds miserable and very fulfilling at the same time. He loves the pugil sticks and the martial arts. Not so much the sand fleas. But as his DI says, “they got to eat too”!

Very cool. I'm sure he'll love it!

In regards to the stock, I found this the other day when looking for some Krag parts. I almost bought one, because it's in my long term plan to get an M1A, but ultimately decided that I have no business spending money on guns that I don't have when I still have stuff I need to buy for the ones I currently own. I have no affiliation with the company, but they did do well by me on a Krag striker, so they're good to go in my experience.

Yep. There are a number of options for replacement wood stocks for that M1A, including Boyds, Dupage, Fulton, and USGI surplus.

Boyds: https://www.boydsgunstocks.com...stk-zz-f-4a4001d1vzz

Dupage: https://www.dupagetrading.com/...14-commercial-stock/

Fulton: https://www.fulton-armory.com/m14-m1a-stocks.aspx

USGI Surplus: https://www.treelinem14.com/US...itary-Finish_c39.htm
(Note that if you go this route, the USGI stocks will have a cutout for the M14 full auto selector switch, which when installed on a semiauto M1A will result in a gap. Some folks don't mind, but if you do, there are various options for plugging the hole with either a dummy full auto selector or just a plug that gets epoxied or screwed in place.)

I highly recommend a Minelli Italian Walnut stock, distributed through LRB. They beat Boyd's hands-down in grain and contour.

Check out LRB on Long Island, they’re costly. They make it anyway you want, it may take awhile.

Have a M1A Loaded and is fairly accurate with my loads, ~1 1/4 MOA.
