I love my 77/22
Got it out for the first time in years. If resting against a tree I could get a headshot on a squirrel at 40 to 50 yards.
Much better than a shotgun. (ever bite into a pellet that you missed?). I'd like to get a full size 77 in a 30 caliber,
or I've always wanted a 22./250 Ahh, on my list.

My 77/22 is by far my favorite rifle I own.

It all around is a grown up rifle. A true forged receiver and true locking bolt.

That was my immediate reaction when I first saw one: “Finally, a grown-up’s .22 rifle.” There were much less common others that might have qualified, but I wasn’t familiar with them or they didn’t strike me that way. One of mine is from the first year they were available, 1984.

I have the receipt for mine. 249.00 in 1988, I thought that was quite a bit for a .22. I wish I would have got one with iron sights but it doesn't matter now.

I have two, a 77/22 and a 77/22 mag. I turned the mag into a 17 HMR with a Shilen barrel change. I use the 17 much more than the 22 mag.

Both have had a little trigger work, nothing too crazy.

I looked at Rugers website, apparently they don't make them in 22lr anymore. Just 22 Hornet, MSRP of 1279 dollars Eek

The one thing I wish were possible is to put my second 77/22 in a precision-type chassis. I don’t know when the 22 Long Rifle version was discontinued, but evidently it was long enough ago that no one ever made chassis for that model. I wonder why Ruger discontinued it; lack of sales, I suppose.

Boyds?
Don't they make really decent stocks?

Thanks for mentioning that, but like perhaps another one or two manufacturers’, the one that I see Boyds offers is a traditional hunting style stock that is essentially just like the original stock.

Although my Tikka T1x fills that role well now, what I wanted for the Ruger was a chassis of the sort that are commonly used for precision rifle competitions: adjustable cheek riser and length of pull, vertical hand grip, and attachment points for things like bag riders, bipods, tripods, forend weights, and possibly other accessories. Chassis like that are available for CZ and Bergara rimfires, 10/22s and clones, plus possibly other brands, but not for the 77/22 as far as I have been able to find with extensive searches.

I have modified the 77/22 for some of that, but other features are not really feasible. Because of the T1x that I acquired last July, I might not even be interested in a stock change for the 77/22 now, but I believe it’s a little more precise than the Tikka because of its aftermarket Lilja barrel.

I know the older(maybe all) of the 77/22s had very easy owner barrel change options. That’s how I converted mine may to the 17 HMR.

It seems current trend is to eliminate easy adjustments with firearms owners, triggers, barrels, whatever. I realize some triggers adjust but may have a floor higher than desired.

You could talk me into a 77/22. I always thought they were nice looking rifles.

I was a little surprised to see the 77/22 only comes in .22 Hornet now. If you want a bolt-action rimfire from Ruger, it has to be one of the American models or the Precision Rifle. Or, of course, a used 77.

Mine has had a few mods. I bought it used around 1993. Put a 10/22 barrel on it in 1997. Eventually, had it threaded and then coated by Birdsong.

I got mine in 1993.
It's been my forever .22.
