LWRC DI M6IC
LWRC always had a good name in my mind since Mac from Future Weapons had their 6.8 PSD on. (Always wanted that one, the round never panned out for me.)

I kicked the tires on their 308s at SHOT in 2024 and that really got my attention. I had a buddy who swears by them, it's all he shoots which I always thought was funny. I respected his opinion but didn't want a 556 piston AR.

Anyway, being stuck in Cal I wanted to get a Cal legal rifle bought here and all that. LWRC is a popular option in this communist land, as is DD.

I had both rifles on the counter, and decided to go with the LWRC for $1800 range. I liked that it was DI.

I put my SWFA 1-6 on it, as this is my setup for 16 inch barrel midlenth. This one replaced my 16" FN CHF gov profile mid upper. I was able to shoot 5 round groups into an inch with Razorcore 77s on good days with the old setup, and I was happy with that.

So I took it out to get to know it and I was dam impressed with it. Every single range session, which has been about 6, I've shot at least 1-half inch group. It's boring to keep it at an inch.

This company doesn't pay me, I'm just fired up to tell others about it. I've seen nothing online saying these guns shoot this well. It's totally won me over, where I would have said before I prefer CHF CL barrels.

It should go without saying the gun is super high quality otherwise. It's full ambi which I would NOT prefer. As a lefty I only use ambi safety and charge, but it's not a huge deal for it to be on there. CHF nitride barrel I believe with spiral flutes which I didn't like either. But how this gun performs I can keep my mouth shut. The action is super smooth, and the trigger is pretty good too.

Great product if you ask me.

That is my HD rifle. I liked it so much I bought a spare. Proprietary rail bothers some people. It doesn’t bother me.

Scout light, T1, sling, and some rail covers.

I could do without the spiral fluting but it doesn’t actually do anything bad so I got over that. I love the full ambi lower. I liked it so much I recently added a pistol version in FDE. Nice.

Yeah the only other option I see for sale is a 10.5 inch which is shorter than I'd want, but I took a serious look at it because this one is that good.

I don't mind the rail either, I actually like that it extends out so I can put the LPVO more forward. I want to get the longer rail but can't justify it currently. I also don't want to mess with a good thing.

That’s the one I bought. I recently took it out with a Vent Spiritus suppressor and it was really nice. I enjoyed it so much I just ordered a 50 degree safety (I love the MR556 one so I should like this one) and a Geissele SD-C trigger.

I would love an 11.5 but they seem to be hens teeth right now and honestly for my purposes the 10.5 with a can does everything I need.

It's good that you like your LWRC DI. I've heard positive things about them.

I picked up an LWRC piston 14.5" upper from the prize table of a 2-rifle match years ago. I was all grins. The upper has great fit & finish and functions flawlessly. But its accuracy is quite disappointing. The barrel fouls worse than anything I've owned. Maybe a year or two ago, I detailed its accuracy at 100 yards in a thread along the lines of "can your AR15 produce sub-2" 10-round groups at 100 yards?" That piston LWRC exhibits by far the worst accuracy of any of my ARs, but it was able to do it in spades with FGMM 69. I believe some groups were close to 1". But it only shoots FGMM 69 and Hornady VMax 55 with decent accuracy. Odd for a 1:7 barrel that so many on the internet seem so hot and bothered about. I contacted LWRC a few times about replacement barrels and a more modern rail, and heard crickets. I don't see my buying any LWRC items down the road.

But...it's nice to hear their DI rifles are good to go.

I recall you won that rifle and were disappointed with it. That was one more reason I didn’t have any desire for the piston one.

I’ve used 77 Razorcore exclusively so far. I am curious how it does with other rounds though. If I can”t get Razorcore from Midway on sale anymore I might have to explore other options when I run out.

IMI (like 77 Razorcore) ammo has been fairly accurate in my rifles, but nothing special. Consider the following:
- FGMM 69 is pretty much THE match ammo that works across almost all quality barrels. I've yet to see a quality barrel of at least 1:9 twist that doesn't shoot it well. The only downside is that the MatchKing 69 bullet has a relatively low B.C. -- There are better bullets for 400 yards and beyond.
- FGMM 77. Needs at least a 1:8 twist, but 1:7 is better. Its downside is a relatively mild MV.
- Hornady Black HPBT 75. Generally my favorite match load. A little less expensive than Hornady's match version of the 75 HPBT bullet, and I think it performs better.
- Hornady ELD-M 73. Needs a tighter chamber -- so it's better with a 223 match or Wylde chamber, than a 5.56 NATO chamber. Some barrels show deteriorating accuracy as the throat wears, and the jump to the lands increases.
- If Federal still loads Berger bullets in their GMM line, it's worth a try. They tend to have milder MVs, but the bullets are great.
- Black Hills' version of Federal & Hornady match loads.
- Other possibilities include Fiocchi and Ausie Outback (ADI).

Some people have good results with the Hornady Frontier line, but I found it inconsistent.
Winchester's match ammo is decent, but not up to the level of Federal, Hornady, and Black Hills.

Federals TMK bullets have great B.C.s. I tried a handful of factory loads with the bullets and none of them were consistently accurate. I have one buddy who finds TMK handloads really accurate in his 224 Valkyrie -- but I suspect he's one of the very few.

Can you buy just the upper?

Just to add another reason. I like the LWRC bolt carriers. They have ditched the gas key staking and went straight to milling out the gas key directly onto the BC. I’m sure I got the metallurgical terms wrong but the point is no more screws that need to be staked or can back out.
