So before and after posting the thread below, I continued to research the web and watch videos on the rifle, and try to determine what stock it was wearing. Curious as to when it was made, I called Beretta and talked to their customer service representative. After giving him the serial number, He in informed me it was a 308 made in 2016, and it was a CTR…. NOT a Super Varmint as tagged. I went back the next day and spoke to the same salesman, and told him what I had found out. There’s a big difference in price between a CTR and a Super Varmint. He said they would correct the mistake, and determine a new price and let me know on Monday. Evidently the person in charge of that was already going on Friday, and they did not work on Saturday. So, I think the CTR retails for $1100, so I’m hoping this will be marked down considerably less.

Original post below…
My local shop has a traded in Tikka heavy barrel in 308. It is tagged as a T3X Super Varmint, but there is no box, and I’m not familiar enough to confirm. It appears to have an aftermarket carbon fiber stock with a nice sponge style paint job. Looks great, has an adjustable cheek riser, qd points on the front of the stock, and a Pachmyer recoil pad. I didn’t see a brand on the stock. On the rifle, the metal was all dull non reflective black, and the bolt was not fluted. Appeared to be about a 20” barrel, which was threaded. Trigger was fantastic, and it comes with 3 mags. Currently has a SureFire brake, not pinned. It’s priced at $1350.

I have 2 bolt guns now, a 90’s vintage 700, not threaded, but a great shooter. The other is a TRG42…. An awesome shooter, threaded, but huge! Heavy and big…. The Tikka is smaller, lighter, and seems like a great all around package. I’ve seen sigfreuds post with his rifle and he seems pleased. Any opinions or thoughts are appreciated. Could I do better with something else spending similar money?

Sex offenders can not be rehabilitated. It's in their wiring. They should not be released back into the general public. On the other hand they should not be warehoused either. I think they should be executed.....Spectre

Not sure what they retail for, but that's nearly double what my 270win T3x Lite Stainless was NIB.

That said, love the rifle! No regrets other than slightly wishing I'd looked for a superlight with the fluted bbl

You looking for range shooting? It sounds a little heavy for most hunting.

What might be your goals for this gun?
Myself, normally, unless a chassis is from somebody I have heard of and used, subtract $500 or more.

Thanks guys…. Looking for a range gun, something that is capable of above average accuracy. Even with the heavy barrel it seemed pretty manageable if I were to take it hunting….. probably due to the carbon stock. Looks like Eurooptic has the current model listed for $1650?

If you haven’t seen both of my reviews, here they are:

No two guns are exactly alike, and I don’t make recommendations, but I have indeed been happy with all the Tikkas I’ve owned, except one in 300 Winchester Magnum. The last wasn’t the rifle’s fault, but I just couldn’t shoot it well due to the recoil.

Something to be aware of about Tikka rifles is that they use two different types of magazines.

Most use a polymer mag like this:

https://www.eurooptic.com/tikk...gazine-s5850374.aspx

The T3x CTR and TAC A1 models use this type that is basically a Sako TRG magazine with a rubbery cover at the bottom. The Tikka mags cannot be used in TRG rifles, but TRG magazines can be used in the Tikka T3x tactical models.

https://www.eurooptic.com/S574...-NOT-TRG-COMPAT.aspx

A possible complication to all that is that most chassis systems for the CTR model don’t use the original factory mags, but switch to using AICS magazines. There are an exception or two like a KRG chassis that can be had that uses the factory mags, but that’s unusual. As you can see from the EuroOptic site, factory tactical model magazines are expensive. I prefer them over AICS mags, but it can be a bit of a shock if we’re trying to lay in a supply of factory magazines.

You might want to check to see what type magazines the rifle you’re looking at uses.

Thanks sigfreund….. I’ll check them out next time. The hang tag said it comes with 3 mags, so that’s a bonus for sure.

I am a pretty big fan of Tikka. Have a couple. The both shoot very good. My Stainless 300wsm is a tack driver and I don't use that term loosely. Don't think I paid over $500 for either. Both bone stock.
I do not see the need to spend that kind of $ on a Tikka rifle. Use the balance of your $ to outfit it with an optic that meets your needs. Ymmv
