I have a buddy who wants to trade this rifle for my CZ Shadow 2 but I am not entirely sure of the barrel in the gun. Every part of the gun is marked Noveske except I cannot find any barrel makings. Even the CH and gas block are marked Noveske. What do you guys think?. These are some pics he sent to me. [url=https://postimg.cc/5Q1zX0xY] [/url

Googled Noveske N4 [based on the Model N4 in your last photo] & their Recon rifle was the first result. The current gen 4 looks pretty similar to your photos. https://noveske.com/products/16-gen-4-recon/ But, I don't know these rifles, so I could be off on that. The Enemy's gate is down.

The looking around I did seems to indicate that they're known for not deeply engraving their barrels, it's just minimally laser engraved to basically no depth. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

I know it is a Gen 1 gun. The barrel is the only concern. However……I find it hard to believe someone would go through all the trouble to have all correct Noveske parts and not have a Noveske barrel. I think it may be a full factory gun.

Looks like it to me. He can provide no history on it. I would put a 80-20 percentage that it is. I am looking for a basic early Noveske rifle. Looks good to me. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I am issued a Gen 1 MK18. There are no markings on that barrel either.

Hope this helps. I bought a complete Noveske 16" Basic upper receiver in 2009. The markings are stamped very lightly. Had to highlight them with a drop of oil to get this pic. Also, if the gas block is marked Noveske, good chance the barrel is also. _____________________

Can you give Noveske a call with the serial number to find out if it was sold as an assembled rifle or as a lower only?

Maybe take the handguard off. I am up to about 92% sure it is a factory rifle "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Last winter I picked up a PSA "Dailey Deal" upper receiver complete minus bolt group and charging handle, sub $250. High Quality, but I doubt if top tier. Barrel mark are same as the picture above. Also the barrel is nitrite finish, not parkerized. Without the Iron Cross trademark, I would be suspicious. A call to Noveske may be in order. Edit to add: The bore & chamber is NOT chrome lined, but nitrite. This message has been edited. Last edited by: D_Steve, _____________________

I wouldn't make that trade even if you get confirmation that it is a factory Noveske Rifle. While fine rifles I've always thought they commanded a premium that they didn't deserve. Same thing with Daniel Defense. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you Very little |
Looked at the Noveske barrels they mark the cross on it as D_Steve shows, it's very light but it will have the Cross, from where it shows in the images for the barrel on their web page looks like you'd need to remove the guard to see The block in their images has the cross as well, https://noveske.com/products/c...e_headspaced-bolt=No I'd call them with the SN since its an important and not inexpensive swap, they should be able to tell you what came in the rifle. easy way is to remove the hand guard.

How is the gas block installed? If it's pinned, there's a better chance it's legit. If it's set-screwed, that might be a red flag. Also, the color-fill on the handguard is weird to me. Why color-fill there, and not the lower, if it's a factory gun? And if you're only going to color fill only one of those places, it'd be the lower, IMO; not the handguard markings.

That barrel is NOT Noveske. Every Noveske I ever had always has that Noveske cross stamped on the barrel. Gun is definitely not factory built. Q

Ice age heat wave, cant complain. |
And didn't they, at some point or maybe still, mark the upper and lower with an overlapping cross, indicating it was sold as a complete gun? Not sure that answers the OPs question on the barrel, so slight drift. NRA Life Member Steak: Rare. Coffee: Black. Bourbon: Neat.

Thank you guys for all your help. I did not make that trade and sent him the info so he knows what he has. The gas block was indeed screwed into place and not pinned.

Yes, they did that early on but eventually abandoned that practice. My first complete Noveske was the original N4 Light Carbine Lo-Pro, bought in 2007 directly from them. It now belongs to another SF member. Great gun, it was Noveske's claim to fame with their CHF double chrome lined thickness barrel, which was considered the cat's meow at the time. Q
