That’s a good start, keep going. I have at least twice as many. Currently working on acquiring a 1915 made Winchester 1895 in 30-40 Krag and a 1894 Winchester pre 1900 in 38-55.

The Older Lever guns were stocked with nicely grained wood. I miss that in the newer carbines.

Well, I got the two old Winchester’s bought. Now waiting for their delivery.

The 1895 was owned by a gentleman that got it from his grandfather who bought it during the depression. It hasn’t been shot since the 50’s. It’s in 30 US (30-40 Krag) and was made in 1915. It has a sling mounted, but it appears to be 1903 sling mounts, so probably added soon after it was acquired originally.

The 1894 Winchester was manufactured in 1896, it’s in 38-55 with a 26” octagon barrel. I don’t know the history of it, but it is an honest original 85% to 90%!

No they weren’t cheap, but I did alright on them. I’ll post pics after I get them.

I had been looking for a 30-30 lever gun about a year. I had a nice older Marlin 336 a number of years ago and should have kept it. Never owned a Winchester 1894 and when I found this nice one the other day I couldn't pass it up.

beltfed21, I have a 1895 in 30 US/30-40 Krag that I have no interest in maintaining in my safe. Can you recommend a good source to evaluate it based on serial #, build date, condition, etc? Gunbroker only has one that has any current bids; all the others are priced much higher and have no bidders...so researching that way was not help.

brywards, if you have a logon to GB you can do a search on completed auctions and look for those that have sold (check prices & condition). Or take it to your favorite local dealer for some guidance. You can do a search online for a number of sites that will give you the year of manufacture by the serial number. Condition is key to the old Winchesters.

I'm still waiting on my 1895. Should be here first part of this week (seller and his FFL holder are a little slow). I got my 1894 (1896 b-day). Wow is all I can say on that one!

Ah - I didn't think to login and check closed auctions. Thanks for the suggestion!

Congrats on your 19th Century Winchesters! Looks like my Model 1895 30-40 was born in 1899. My Model 1894 30WCF (30-30) was born in 1897.

Nice guns, all.

I have a plain Jane, Marlin 45-70 in full rifle length. It is fun to shoot.

And I have a rifle length Marlin Cowboy in .357, which is really, really fun to shoot.

I have always had a sweet spot for Marlin levers as well. My all time favorites are the 35Rem and 450Marlin rounds.
