Few weeks ago a transfer came into the store, one of my managers said “Hey, you’re old enough to remember these” and hands me a Bad Attitude Department lower marked GM Corp. Hydra Matic Division. I remember the controversy over those in 68-69 as I was just a couple years young for the draft at that time.

I really didn’t need another AR, in fact the last one I acquired about two and a half years ago I traded it back to the store in December, never fired it in that time, between the deal I got on it and at the time and proposed restrictive legislation here it was wise to just do it.

So, now down the slippery slope I go, my own receiver landed Saturday……

I bought a 604 "slick side" upper receiver and 20" pencil barrel from Brownells during Black Friday and Christmas sales and just built a 604 clone. I had to paint the upper since it's currently only available in black anodizing.

I am keeping an eye on those Bad Attitude Dept lowers myself for another future build.

Originally I thought the H-M uppers were slicksides, most photos I’ve seen have forward assists on them so most likely that’s the way I’ll go.

One of my customers at the gun shop and prior to that at the Harley dealer said he thinks he has a 20” 1:12 barrel at home and if he does he’ll make me a deal on it. I think this time I’ll look for a takeoff foregrip and buttstock this time instead of Brownell’s reproductions.

Thanks Marzy.

I might be ordering the stocks this weekend. I had a call out of the blue on a set of Ansen Sprint (the real deal circa 1972) wheels that have been hanging around here for a few years. I’ll let him have them (a friend’s son) for what I have into them, 300 bucks without center caps or lugs.

The barrel guy,I’m going to call him this weekend. I set him up with a deal today at work, a MINT Ruger Security Six circa 1976 in Stainless with the original box and all the paperwork. He should be in a good mood over that one!

Update:
Well the 20” pencil barrel will be mine Saturday, next week I’ll order the stripped upper, the teardrop forward assist and a couple other small parts.

Still looking for a decent buttstock and triangular foregrip at a less than break the bank price.

Let me look tonight when I get home, I think I have a vintage A1 upper with teardrop. If I do it's yours.

It's not as old as I remembered. It is an A1 upper but with brass deflector and does not have a tear drop forward assist. it is still yours if you want it.

Tuckerrnr1,

Thank you but I really want to make it look as correct as possible.

I do appreciate the offer though.

That's called a C7 upper.
It'd make an XM177 DEA carbine or Dissipator.

If anyone is looking Dirty Bird makes an upper without the brass deflector, ordered one together with the teardrop forward assist and rear sight.

Next month the hunt for the buttstock and foregrip begins.
