IronworkerBest deal on AR magazines
I got my first AR-15 about 1985. I bought a bunch of G.I. 30 round mags then, mostly Colt. I am thinking that I need some new magazines. I hear a lot about P mags. So I am thinking I should buy a few. Does anyone know of a good deal or sale right now ? I am open to other suggestions. Thanks, Ironworker.

Black92LXNever hurts to have a mix.
Lancers on clearance. I have a bunch of them and like them.

MikeGLII have a shitpile of PMAGs, various generations, I always end up grabbing my COLT GI mags.
They dont do anything better or worse than PMAGs, I just like the look of a GI mag.

every few months they have a sale on a 10 pack.
Great mags that have lasted me for a while.

NickAnother vote for Lancer mags. I like the translucent bodies and metal feed lips. They have never failed me and seem to work in anything.

Why? Are yours worn out from use?
Pmags aren’t flawless IME. The only jams I’ve ever had on a couple of my ARs have been with Pmags. YMMV

IronworkerActually, I probably have more than I will ever use or wear out. I am in Virginia. I worry about the upcoming Governor's election. If the Dem. gets elected, I may not ever be able to buy any more magazines. So I thought that I might pick up a few more. I keep hearing how wonderful P mags are, so I thought I would try some. I have a good relationship with a local dealer. He came up with a price of $12.50 delivered, if I buy ten. He is good to me, so I ordered them. Many thanks to all who replied. I tried to keep politics out of this, but when it comes to magazines, it is hard to do.

This is the way. A 3 pack of magpul followers for GI mags is like $6 MSRP. Maybe go crazy and replace the springs while at it. Buy a few pmags for funzies with the money you saved

flesheatingvirusPMAGs aren't bad, but I much prefer some aluminum GI (like Checkmate) or the Lancers.

OttoSigFrom time to time I have bought a case or box (100) plays for $800. Do a group by with a couple friends and split em 25 or 50/each. Cheapest way to get mags.

94hokieI bought several dozen used GI mags years ago for maybe $3 each from arfcom. Replaced the followers and springs and I was still only around $6 a mag. I realize prices have gone up, but I still prefer GI aluminum mags.

This is really not related to your question of deals. But I was tramatized by the mag limits of 1994. So I decided that I would have enough to last me the rest of my life. And I do. But there is nothing to say that a bill introduced about magazine capaicty limits will grandfather what you have. And that was the case in the last legislative session in my State. Bill introduced and passed out of committee that banned all normal capacity magazines, no grandfather. And that has held up in court in some other situations. Ultimately defeated but not by much. My point so a large inventory is not necessarily a defencse against antigun democrats.

Excellant point.

powermadI did PSA bundle deals for ammo and mags.
They do different ones, I got the 200 rounds of 62 gr Norma and X-tac with 10 mags.
I added 20 round mags to each order as well.

BB61If you buy PMags, I’d buy the Gen 3. There is nothing wrong with earlier generations but you mights as well buy their latest version. I would also buy some impact dust covers for them. They are not very much (Magpul used to include them with each magazine but not anymore).

bubbatimeIf you want the most reliable, best built mag ever made, then get a gen 3 PMAG.
Don’t bother with the gen 2 mags. They are range use only.
I’d get new springs and new followers for your GI mags and rebuild them. Good for another 50 years.

I seem to recall you said this before and never adequately explained why you think this is so. It seems you just don't like them, but in terms of functionality, there is
nothing wrong with the hundreds of thousands- if not millions of gen2 PMags out there.
Just because they make you feel
icky, that doesn't mean they cannot be used for serious purposes.

RogueJSKThe only quibble against Gen 2 PMAGs I've ever encountered was their chance of overinsertion, especially with out of spec lowers or mag catches that aren't fully screwed in.
The Gen 3 added an overinsertion stop to address this.
But many thousands of Gen 2 PMAGs have been successfully used heavily over the decades in military/LE/competition/hard training/etc., so the statement about them being good for "range use only" is overblown.
I wouldn't necessarily seek out more Gen 2s to buy these days when Gen 3s are cheap and plentiful and arguably slightly better, but I also wouldn't toss all your existing Gen 2s in the closet to collect dust either.
