Expanded my suppressor models recently and I do enjoy shooting the AR-10, but even at 16” barrel length it’s 20”+ with the suppressor and every bit of 9-10 pounds loaded. I really don’t want to get into a new caliber with 300BLK as I have a good bit of 308 already, plinking and hunting, and reloading components for a couple K probably. I was waiting on BCM’s 9” 300BLK upper to come into stock but I think I’d rather keep it 1 caliber, interchangeable mags, etc. I don’t see any reason why a 12.5” won’t kill a whitetail or similar. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

yup unless you have some very, very specific need. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Really like my 12.5 so far. The balance is really great, even with the can installed. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Have you ever fired a 7.62x51 rifle with a 12" barrel? I have been shooting my G3K for roughly 3+ decades. I can tell you that firing 7.62X51 out of a 12" barrel yields a substantial muzzle bark I understand that you are thinking about using a can, however if you already have a stockpile of ammunition odds are it is not subsonic. So if you are going to need to buy subsonic ammunition then what is the big deal about switching to 300 Blackout? While I do have an AR that is chambered for 300 Blackout, it has a 10 1/2' barrel. When shooting it suppressed the first time it was pretty quiet, but it doesn't even come close to being as quiet as my integrally suppressed 300 Blackout bolt action rifle If you want to hear how this rifle sounds from various different angles then click on this video 300 Black Ops rifle in action The second sound that you hear is the projectile striking the cardboard backer 100 yards downrangeThis message has been edited. Dude, that is sweet! Do you have, or would you mind, opening up another thread on this rifle? Phone's ringing, Dude.

I think I would rather have a bolt action with a lightweight chassis and short-ish carbon fiber barrel. That would be perfect for hunting and other shooting while not toting something heavy. I have a MDT CF chassis but haven't decided on what caliber to build ~ considering 22 Creed but in the end it will not be heavy. Good Luck

I have a 16” 308 and it’s really loud and obnoxious. I would never shoot it in a car or indoors on purpose unless life or death. I can’t imagine anything shorter. I have 9” 300 blackout upper and even suppressed with supersonic ammo it’s a bit annoying. And i reality 30 needs that 16-18 inches to get full burn. Anything shorter is all fireball That being said the various videos of 12” Hk91 in full auto are pretty bad ass.

Not at all! I have one of these all done up: https://iwi.us/firearms/galil-...7-62-nato-7-62x51mm/ Nothing says GTFO like a flaming .308 to the face. IDPA ESP SS

Otto - Not to derail this thread but if you decide you might consider going the 300 B/O caliber, since you reload, I will be happy to send you my “jig” which trims 223/5.56 brass to the proper length to make 300 B/O brass to use. The only thing you would need would be a set of 300 B/O dies and a $38.00 Harbor Freight electric chop saw - link below. This is how I made my 500 pieces of 300 B/O brass that I load and shoot. One thing I learned about making 300 B/O brass is that Lake City military brass works the best. https://www.harborfreight.com/...NEAQYBSABEgICD_D_BwE Also here is a short video on how the process is done using the jig I can send you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH4DmprHwwg

I've got a POF .308 with 14.5" barrel and love it. It has a adapter so it's 16", but I'm getting ready to suppress it and am looking for any advice on a can. I have had it for 12 years and am ready to change her up.

Not .308, but 12.5" AR10. This one is in 8.6BLK. Way quieter than .308. Plus I can sling 350gr. .338 caliber freedom seeds with it.
