On the "cheap Chinese shotgun" front...
Just picked this up from my FFL. $158 shipped from Classic Firearms. Their website calls it a BL-18 but the box is marked "PD18SB". Essentially a Remington 870 clone. Receiver is marked "Made In China Hawk Industries Co. Ltd.". I believe this used to be sold as the Hawk 981, or some such. No manual or other paperwork was in the box.

Wasn't sure what to expect for $158, but this gun is surprisingly well fit and finished, and feels quite solid. I've read that Hawk made a couple small tweaks to the design but I'm not sure what that would be.

Sight is just a basic front bead. I added the sling which is a Blue Force Gear hunting sling.

I’ve owned two H&R/NEF Pardner Pumps, which were re-branded Hawk 97s. The first was back when they first introduced them to market, and I was rather surprised to see it was Chinese since it was such a solid shotgun. I bought the second during the post-Sandy Hook frenzy when I “needed” another pump gun. I paid $125 and $175 for them, respectively.

The second one now has a 19” barrel, a one-shot 870 extended tube, a MagPul forend with an older Surefire G2 w/LED conversion, and a 7-round Esstac soft sidesaddle. It sorta feels like lipstick on a pig, but it’s a really capable shotgun. It lives close to the place I lay my head for the night for a reason. My one complaint is that it’s heavier than a similarly-equipped 870. I’ve been tempted by those Blue Line guns, but I really don’t need another one.

My son has one. Although he hasn't put a lot of rounds through it, it has functioned perfectly and feels solid enough. Time will tell.

Most feedback I've heard has been positive. I have heard a couple folks commenting that the gun was heavier than they would have liked.
