My 870 could use a refinish.
It has become my knock around gun as of late. I’d like to have it refinished to look like a marine
shotgun but be as durable as well.
It sees all sorts of weather but also quite a bit of sweat from being slung on my back.
We’ve got a good sized black bear at the cabin so I keep the shotgun on around me at all times there.
Sometimes just tossed in the back of the truck or on the ground when fishing.

I’d really like just to buy a Benelli Nova h2o but the budget does not allow for that currently. My 870 runs fine just looks like crap and the original (20 year old) finish is showing its age with some light surface rust.
So figure I’d make it look a bit better but also give it a better more durable finish.

NP3. Teflon infused nickel plating.

https://ontargetmagazine.com/2...ject-ultimate-870/2/

NP3 is an aerospace-accredited, satin gray, non-reflective surface coating for carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum alloys that co-deposits sub-micron particles of Teflon with electroless nickel. It’s highly resistant to corrosion and is super slick, making it ideal for plating internal components to reduce friction, increase reliability and extend service life.

I’m sure Brad at CCR has a similar product equally as durable.

Yep. It's called CPII, which is Electroless Nickel/Boron Nitride plating.

I have a marine 870 and it has held up well on salt water and very limited attention for many years.
When I briefly toyed with the idea of replacing it with an M4 I looked at an H2O at my local addiction store. Its cerakote. I don't think it would do very well in real use. Get nickel and be happy.

Weird that the M4 h2o is ceracoat when the lower Nova models are Nickel plated to include the internals as well.

I'm not sure that it was always the case.

(though I could be thinking of another shotgun that changed from nickle the expensive paint.) Wink

I don’t see this as an option currently on their website for a shotgun. Did they do that for you? I’ve got an old 870 that’s making me go hmmmmmmm.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.
