Staring back from the abyss |
I'm looking for a bipod for my 22. It needs to screw into the sling stud hole and be capable of extending to 24-27(ish)" so that it is usable in a sitting position. Also, I'd like one made of plastic. I've found some higher end metal ones that are long enough, but this rifle/scope/suppressor already weighs about 20# and I'd like to keep the weight from getting really out of hand. There seems to be about 50 billion options out there for bipods, but I'm having a hard time finding a good one with my specifications. Thanks. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

You have a 22 that weighs 20lb and you want a plastic bipod? In any case I use Harris or Atlas and Harris has one model that gets to 27". Maybe you really want to get a tripod and switch to an acra rail. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Thick plastic. . OK, 10#...but it feels like 20. I'm thinking there's got to be something like the shorter Magpul ones...only longer. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

I'm thinking 24"-27" is getting awfully tall for a bipod if you want anything that is truly stable. Checkout Paramount Tactical he's got a YouTube channel too that went in depth on bipods, mount options, and what happens when you do choose certain mount options. How To Choose The Best Bipods For Long Range, ARs, Hunting, and General Use Have you considered a tripod and an arca rail? It would be a whole lot more stable. ---------- “Nobody can ever take your integrity away from you. Only you can give up your integrity.” H. Norman Schwarzkopf

20 pounds is the weight class for a ELR competition rifle -- say 338 LM, 375 Cheytac, 416 Barrett. I can't image a 22lr that's this heavy. Ixnay a bipod for 24-27 inch shooting heights. Use a tripod with some kind of clamping system. ARCA rails work really well. If you want to keep the tripod's weight down, go with carbon fiber legs -- but this will increase the tripod's cost.

I was thinking "If the rifle weighs 20lbs, you might as well step up to a tripod. Then the rifle doesn't really increase in weight at all." (you just have another different 7lbs to carry around) My experience with extra long bi-pods was that I always seemed to be wiggle waggling all over the place. (1970's Harris's) Of course I was young, they weren't even extra long, I just wasn't full sized yet. Or, depending on what type of shooting you're doing, perhaps a set of shooting sticks. (larger diameter segmented ones for a rifle of substantial weight) With them I don't have the issues I did with the long bipods, but that's probably as much me then vs now as it was the difference in the products.

I have a shooting stick contraption that I use for my Sharps that I’ve been using with it and it works well enough, I suppose. It’d just be nice to have something attached and light enough to not have to carry something else. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil."
