It's always interesting to hear about how left handed people deal with right handed firearms. I'm left handed, but I've always held a gun with my right hand. Even when I was really young and pretending sticks were guns. Unless you're left eye dominant it just seems that it would be easier to use your right hand. Of course some people are extremely dependent on their dominant hand, and probably couldn't make the switch. I'm glad I don't have to deal with it. ^^^ Saying this, because Ive been around Left Handed shooters for a while- Don’t think that they were once Right Handed, and just woke up one day… (Minus one friend, but he kinda got his arm blown off in Iraq. Sooo he’s one of the few exceptions) Lefties don’t know anything else. They just figure it out. Yeah, at some point they say “man, I wish this thing was on the other side, THAT would make my life sooo much easier!” But until that thing gets put on the other side, they just deal with it. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. While I'm not a fan of Mr. Reeves generally, I would agree that there are areas the AR is a better choice. It is easier to train new shooters on, has higher capacity, vastly superior range, and is very easy to get multiple rapid hits with. An additional benefit that may be undervalued is in liability. With an AR each pull of the trigger releases one projectile to account for. 00 Buck, by comparison sends 8-9 pellets downrange. We are responsible with every projectile that goes downrange, even that one slightly out of round pellet that decides it wants to veer of and go its own way. If it was up to me, I'd probably retire our shotguns and train everyone on the rifle instead. That said, inside its defined role and limited range with proper ammunition, the shotgun remains king. I've seen both 5.56 and 12ga used at close range. 5.56 is very effective. 12ga is a whole nother level. Different tools, different uses. Either one will serve you well, but the AR is more versatile. | |||
