So dad gave me an Uzi. And in a parts box I found an 8” barrel he bought and cut down.

Call down ATF dogs, it’s never been installed!

Now that that’s out of the way… I plan to SBR the UZI and pick up a 9mm can.

Is ADCO this the best place for a thread and crown job?

I’ll probably have it cut down to 5” and then crown+threading. I’ll figure out the gas system later. Not sure how those 80’s Uzis performed suppressed.

I assume that you're talking about the full sized Uzi that you sent me some photos of a while back?

The standard (non-civilian-rifle-length) Uzi had a 10.2 inch barrel. Keep in mind that the barrel in a Uzi runs all the way back to about the ejection port, with only the last few inches protruding from the muzzle end of the receiver.

Therefore a 5" barrel wouldn't even clear the end of the receiver on a standard Uzi... The barrel in the Uzi photos above is 10.2", and sticks out of the receiver by about 3 inches. A 5" barrel would roughly end somewhere inside the receiver just shy of the front sight ears and several inches short of the retaining nut needed to hold the barrel in place.

So the 8 inch length barrel you found would probably be ending right around the collar ring where the barrel retaining nut locks it into the receiver (that's the knurled knob just ahead of the front sight/handguard), and mechanically you likely couldn't go any shorter than that on a full size Uzi.

This also means you almost certainly don't have the ability to thread that 8" barrel, since there's likely not enough barrel protruding past the collar to thread.

So once you get it SBR'd, if you want a threaded barrel for a suppressor you'd be better off just buying a threaded 8.5" barrel such as this: https://kakindustry.com/semi-f...el-threaded-9mm-8-5/

That'll get you a threaded barrel that's as short as you can go on a full sized Uzi, with the threads ending just before the barrel collar and barrel retaining nut:

No gas system on a Uzi. It's straight blowback.

Rogue,

That’s the ticket then. Looks like I got a lot to learn on that gun!

Thank you as always

Otto,

If your Uzi is a full size with the "fun switch", you will have a ball with it. I believe that it was Vector that made a 45ACP and a .22cal conversion units for them. One can change calibers in less than 2-3 minutes. Just a thought.
