I’m getting tired of 30-06 recoil.
Hey, I’m getting older and have been using ‘06 for decades. It’s just getting to be a bit much. 175gr loads and up are getting to be the top end of what I can tolerate.

I have a 308 but it’s a HEAVY AR10 style. Useful from fixed stands but not for walking around, especially in elk high country.
I have looked at 6.5 CM for deer/antelope but it’s too light for elk IMO. It would be a perfect for, deer and antelope sized game.
7mm-08 seems to find a sweet spot. Capable for elk at 3-400 yards which just happens to fit the area I hunt.

I’ve tried to make sense of Savages lineup but it’s confusing.
I want a 7mm-08 that is built on the factory accurized version of the 110 in left hand bolt. It needs to have an Accufit V2 stock for the adjustment capability.
Any ideas on where to find that gun?

Gunbroker or ‘grab a gun’ casts a wide net. I like grab a gun better recently, very easy. If the gun exists new, grab a gun will usually source one.

Over the years Browning has made a fair number of left handed rifles.

I'm biased, but love my Tikka. Mine's a Lite Stainless, not a Superlite. Weighs in at just over 8lbs with the Nikon Monarch V mounted & an empty magazine.

Don't overlook a .257 Weatherby Mag. Minimal recoil, accurate, and deadly. The Vanguard line is light to carry and affordable. I've taken elk with mine. 110gr Accubonds to the boiler room did the trick just fine.

Roy killed a cape buffalo with one. It's plenty of gun.

The only downside is the ammo is a tad spendy...unless you reload.

I had a gunsmith years ago(RIP Stoney), he was the consummate rifleman, hunter, reloader and gunsmith. At least in later years he used a 243 for most everything, including elk.

He hunted a private ranch, was VERY particular with his shots, worked for him.

Contrast that with another I used to know, said his 300 WSM wasn’t enough for elk. He was actually looking for a larger round. At 1st I thought he was joking, then asked about the hunt particulars. He admitted to shooting an elk in the butt as it ran away, 150 grain ballistic tip with his 300. His buddies found the dead elk 5 days later. Kinda crazy I know.

I agree with the 257 Weatherby. I'm almost 75 and still enjoy shooting mine. I don't hunt with it.
I'm not sure the recoil difference between the 257 Weatherby mag. and the 30-06 would be that noticeable.
I would try the 30-06, with well constructed lighter bullets.

Oh. My. God.

P250UA5: I do like the Tikka.
I wish it had more adjustability but they do make a fine rifle.

.308 does everything I need. I’m a lefty and have several savage rifles. They are all accurate. I recently bought a Browning micro. It’s a slick, compact pretty little gun. I’ve only halfway sighted it in (ran out of time at the range) so I’m not sure how accurate it is yet. I kicked around getting a 7mm-08 or 243 but I’ve got tons of 308 ammo stocked.

I know a guy who tags elk with a 6mm Creedmoor, so a 6.5 could do it. Alternatively, would you consider an -06 with a can? A good brake or a can would really drop the recoil down but still give you a familiar round you are likely set up for. I say can over brake as the brake is great but like the opposite of the can which likely isnt what you want for hunting.

OK I'll be the one to say "...not what you asked, but..."
Have you considered more premium bullets in a lighter weight?

A Barnes X in 150gr. is kinda tough to beat even loaded slightly tame.

I also have a Tikka T3x Stainless Lite in .308. Like my other Tikka ( a T3 Hunter in .223), it has a wonderfully smooth action.

I would try a .308. The .308 feels like 15%-20% less recoil than a 30-06. It is a very efficient cartridge.

Will small, fast cartridges take big game. Sure.
But for a 400+lb animal I prefer a .30cal bullet.
Remember. Once your rifle is sighted in. You will really only shoot your rifle once a year theoretically. So recoil should not be a big deal. I enjoy shooting .30 cal. in 160-180 grain offerings Myself.

What stock do you use? I would recommend a Hogue overmolded stock with the internal bedding block. It will absorb recoil very well. I built a 30-06 for a local customer and shooting it with 165 grain Nosler Backcountry was just fine. My 308 with a wood stock shooting 169 grain bullets kicked harder.

If you're using a traditional wood stock with the metal buttplate, well, you're taking all the recoil.

I also think a 165 grain bullet is plenty for elk. It really is shot placement.

I use a Sig Cross Magnum Sawtooth (Proof carbon barrel) in .300 PRC for elk. I use a Thunderbeast Magnus suppressor with the recoil reducing brake. Not terrible recoil wise, and relatively light with the cf barrel, and the folding stock helps with packing it on hunts.

Agreed. I think a 165 is a decent weight. I was testing the Hornady 165 CX but didn’t get great accuracy out of it.
My last hunt I was using Federal 175 Terminal Ascent because I didn’t have my reloading stuff set up yet, so factory rounds. I did pick up 150gr CX bullets and want to load up some test loads with it.

Had an interesting conversation with Savage Arms the other day.
I asked for what started this thread - LH bolt action, 7mm-08 built on a factory accurized action.
Well, they don’t make those anymore! Roll Eyes
The only guns in their stable that are factory blueprinted are the 110 Elite Precision, at 12+ pounds.
So it’s back to the drawing board…

Anubismp mentioned previously getting a can or a brake, I have a brake on my rifle already.
The search continues.

I just Googled 7mm 08 Left Hand Rifles and it appears Buds Gun Shop has what you're looking for in stock.

I’m confused…all I see is Axis 2 rifles which do NOT have a V2 stock.
Do you have a link?
