Suppressed I’m thinking I could still get 1150 FPS, maybe a little more with hand loads.

That should be fine to kill a pig or deer within 100 yards yeah?

Sounds like you plan to hand load 200gr+ projs based on that low of a velocity? Why not just keep it subsonic and keep it quiet(er)? Think I’ve seen plenty people talking about suppressed sub sonic 300blk being good within 100 yds, maybe out a little further. Figure if you’re not going sub sonic then go with the lighter projs and push it over 2000fps. I have a 300blk pistol with 9” barrel and only focused on lighter supers since I’ll never get a suppressor in CA. If I could, I’d go with the 200gr+ rounds but keep them sub sonic. Just try to find a good low velocity expanding bullet. Sorry, I don’t think 7” is too short though either. I believe they say optimal is 8-9” for full powder burn, but you could probably make it down to 5” or so and have a decent close range weapon.

...Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way...

If you are looking to kill pigs with 300 blk stay with super sonic ammo. I use a 8.3” barrel in my gun along with Hornady 110gr VMax loaded with 19gr IMR 4227. It is deadly on pigs.

Please please please….do not use subsonic ammo to hunt with. You will be fine with a 7” barrel and super sonic ammo. 300 blk does extremely well in short barrels.

1150 fps with a 200 grain bullet produces 587 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle. The majority of hunters will state this is inadequate for deer or pigs. Furthermore, many heavy bullets perform poorly at such low velocities -- limited expansion or tumbling, and thus act like an ice pick.

Use supersonic loads for hunting. A longer barrel will also increase bullet energy.

I’ve read that subsonic ammo is not enough for pigs. So I guess I worded that wrong. While I will use a suppressor, I’m not worried about using subsonic ammo. Maybe my delve into velocities wasnt good. Maybe I was way too conservative with that initial 1150 estimate.

I should have just asked, “can I still ethically hunt pigs and deer within 100 yards with a 7” 300 blackout upper?”

I think you will be fine with that barrel and supersonic ammo for pigs or deer with good shot placement. This pig was taken with a single shot using a 8.3” barrel and the load mentioned above. I don’t think the extra 1.3” will matter too much.
