I too bought the "scratch and dent" - not a single mark.

That said, another option is Ebay. I've picked up a couple of inexpensive "hold me over" brakes for around $25 apiece.

Re: cleaning the brake - find the rubber bands they use to castrate cattle. A friend who's a cattle farmer gave me a handful last year and they're perfect for DIY "self timing" brakes.
